Description

Upholstery skills - from basic to advanced, traditional and modern styles. The course is taught by Jan; a City and Guilds qualified upholsterer who has previously taught upholstery and sewing for Kirklees College. Students work in small groups of mixed abilities and ages. New students are encouraged to begin with a small item of furniture such as a drop in seat, a small footstool, or even a headboard. All equipment is available to use, but students are welcome to bring their own tools if they prefer. Advice and teaching is very hands on and practical, and students will learn at their own pace in a friendly and fun environment. Students with no experience are welcome and will be taught the basic skills required to progress to a complete upholstery project. Students with some experience and a desire to refine skills or learn new techniques are equally welcome. Both modern and traditional techniques can be learnt. The course is located in Almondbury, a couple of miles from Huddersfield centre. Students choose 1 or more sessions per week - e.g. Monday morning for 12 weeks Classes run Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday mornings and afternoons, and evenings on Tuesday and Wednesday, at the following times: Morning: 9.30 – 12.00 Afternoon: 12.45 – 3.15 Evening: 6.00 – 8.30 (Wednesday only) Book for 1 session, or book morning and afternoon on the same day, to get 2 sessions of supported learning plus practice time in between the morning and afternoon sessions. This is a great option for those travelling from outside the local area and wanting to make the best use of time.
