Straw Stars with Ruby Taylor

Description

Make a beautiful, large, folk art-inspired star from English rush. Big enough to hang on your door as a gorgeous alternative to a wreath, and also perfect as a wall decoration. Rush is a traditional, native plant that’s lovely to work with. There’ll be lots of samples showing variations to inspire you. 14-18 year olds are very welcome if accompanied by a participating adult. Groups are small to allow for individual attention. Tutor Biography: Ruby Taylor, founder of Native Hands, is inspired by working with natural materials foraged from woods, hedgerows and the land where a dialogue emerges between her hands and the materials. Immersed in the whole cycle of production: harvesting in a sustainable way and processing the raw materials to create functional and sculptural pieces. Usually teaching groups in the woodlands of East Sussex, Ruby brings her popular courses indoors with Atelier Beside the Sea during the winter months to continue sharing her unique approach to this craft. Ruby is passionate about helping people develop their skills and creativity whilst developing their connection to the natural world. With over 30 years’ experience, her teaching method comes with clarity, patience and humour. Location: MAKE Arch 3 is located in our gallery on Brighton Beach. What's included in the price?

Refreshments will be available during the class. All materials are provided by Atelier Beside the Sea, although you may wish to collect some visual reference materials and a sketchbook and pencil to make notes and sketch out ideas.
