This two-week theatre skills, playwriting, and performing course makes use of the UK’s long-standing reputation as a leading centre of theatre-making to explore English Language learning and intercultural communication through performance and writing for performance. On this course you will be introduced to drama exercises that encourage listening, ensemble awareness, and creative collaboration in a playful, non-traditional, and physically energising environment. This setting also serves as a unique space to explore English language learning and intercultural communication in all its forms. On this course you will: • be taught basic playwriting skills, including character creation, spoken improvisations, simple devising, and short writing exercises • have workshops on intercultural communication • explore theatre principles based on Stanislavskian techniques. Playwriting and Performance: You will create a short play for two characters with the support of our theatre and script development tutor. There will be time for rehearsal, staging, and performance and you will perform in each other’s plays with support from our professional actor! After studying on this course you will: • build your confidence in public speaking and acting in English • develop your playwriting skills • develop your English language skills • have lots of opportunities for cross-cultural communication. Theatre trips are included to consolidate your learning. We welcome students with a lower English language ability of 5.5 IELTS or equivalent who want to improve their English language skills. This course is also part of the NTU Global Summer School which attracts undergraduate students from colleges around the world.

This course will be delivered in person on Nottingham Trent University city campus. For our week-long summer school courses, we offer single rooms in shared apartments in Nottingham Trent University’s city campus accommodation, which is ideal if you're looking to be based in Nottingham's lively city centre and want an economical place to stay.

Bookings are taken on a seven-night basis, from Saturday to Saturday.

The rooms are single occupancy, with a private bathroom.

You will be sent a link to book your accommodation once you have made your course booking through Craft Courses.

We offer accommodation during the summer only. We are unable to offer university accommodation during term time (for evening and weekend courses) but you'll find plenty of places to stay nearby, as we're located in the city centre.
