This popular 2-day course is designed for beginners and those with some basketry experience taught by Joe Gregory, owner of Creative with Nature Ltd. In my beautiful, light Georgian studio in the centre of Todmorden, West Yorkshire, just 2 minutes from the train station by foot, or ample parking facilities close by. If you're new to basketry working on a round basket is the best way to start to develop your skills. If you've made baskets before there are various weaves you'll be able to explore and hints and tips to develop your skill set. This is a relaxed and fun course with a skilled, friendly teacher, I have been teaching for over 15 years. The Willows Tea and Coffee House is on the ground floor of the building and all students receive a discount there while on a course. Todmorden is 30 minutes by train to Manchester centre, 50 minutes to Leeds and just over 3 hours on the fast train to London. Learn to weave one of my most popular basketmaking courses, the Asymmetrical Willow Basket. Over the two days you’ll have the opportunity to use different Willows and learn different weaving techniques to achieve a truly unique basket that will look fabulous in any setting. If you have a special piece of wood of your own (who doesn’t!) please bring it to the course and you can incorporate it into your handle. But if you don’t have a special piece of wood you can choose from one of my pieces in the workshop. This is a wonderful immersive workshop where you will have time to understand the process of weaving and to go away with something you can be truly proud of. Suitable for beginners and those with some weaving experience a lovely way to spend a couple of days. Come alone and meet other crafty folk or come with a friend or two for a special day together. This course does require some strength and old clothes should be worn for the course.

Hi my name is Joe Gregory, I'm a willow basket maker and sculptor based in West Yorkshire. I started weaving as a hobby in 2004 and by 2008, I realised I could make a living doing a craft that I loved. Starting from my kitchen table to now owning a 5 storey Georgian building in the centre of Todmorden; weaving with Willow has provided me with the most rewarding career whilst enabling me to keep my family safe and healthy. I teach sculpture and basket making for everyone from beginners to more advanced weavers. I have also been lucky enough to teach internationally, as well as up and down the country. I've worked on some amazing projects over the years and feel very lucky to have found this beautiful craft. I am comfortable teaching children; beginners and more advanced weavers. Each class rewards me in different ways. I have been fortunate to teach those with different needs; from sight problems, to people returning from a stroke, to those with their own special needs. I am always happy to craft my class to suit everyone I teach.
