Alice Hume is a Textile Artist based at Portsmouth Museum & Art Gallery. In 2013 she graduated from Winchester School of Art with a degree in Woven Textile Design. Vanderhume comes from her ancestry of Flemish Weavers. Alice pushes the boundaries of weaving and uses unusual materials of copper yarn and raffia on her 8-shaft Harris Loom. After Graduating Alice and her father collaborated to make handmade frame looms called Hume Looms from recycled wood which she uses to teach weave workshops.
"Thank you Alice for a really enjoyable day. It was so relaxing spending a whole day weaving. I am very pleased with the piece of weaving that I brought home with me. I am looking forward to doing more weaving."
"What a fabulous way to spend two hours learning the basics of a new craft. Alice is a very welcoming, calm and patient teacher and I thoroughly enjoyed making my pot holder under her guidance and chatting to the other attendees. The workshop is run in a sideroom off the Porters Lodge gift shop and is a perfect location."
"Loved this! Alice is a great teacher, explaining as you go and suggesting different techniques to try which is exactly what I wanted as an introduction. Huge range of wools to choose from. Definitely thinking of going back for a second day."
