"This was a new experience for us which we thoroughly enjoyed. Sebastian is a knowledgeable and patient teacher. We learnt a great deal. One tip as a complete novice to stone carving - choose a reasonably soft stone to work on, or at least a stone that is similar in consistency to your practice stone. It makes carving a lot easier."

"I booked this course for my 9 year old son who has only tried stone carving once before. He really enjoyed it and got a lot out of it, carving 3 relief sculptures, using a range of tools. Sebastian was a great teacher - relaxed but encouraging and with some gentle suggestions. He also provided delicious brownies! The countryside setting was beautiful and we had a great weekend. "

"Had a great weekend learning how to carve stone under Sebastian's guidance. Was a relaxing weekend. For me the first day was harder removing all the excess material, and on the second day was able finess the shape. Sebastian was a good tutor, relaxed and giving the right amount of guidance while you were free to make your sculpture. Would definitely recommend, and two days is an absolute must, particularly if you want something three dimensional."

"Have just returned from a very enjoyable weekend course with Sebastian. I wasn’t at all sure what to expect - whether I would have the ability to create something or indeed strength required to carve stone. I needn’t have worried. Sebastian quickly explained the techniques and tools I would use and left me to familiarise myself with both. Before I knew it he had advised me on a piece of stone to work with and I was immersed in the carving. At the end of the first day in a lovely setting, both myself and the other members of the small group had made great progress towards our designs. The second day also flew by and I am very proud of the sculpture I have made. I would thoroughly recommend this course to everyone."

"As I stand in my workshop 2 weeks after my training weekend with Sebastian Rasch, I'm looking at my next piece in a different frame of mind to that before the course. Sebastian has inspired me to see that after 9 years of cutting small stone stone with hand tools, I can be confident in my ability to move on to real and larger pieces. I never knew that I could cut into stone, and see that is as good a piece as any other. Now I can. My sincere thanks go to Sebastian for giving me the confidence to continue with larger and more interesting work. From the fantastic pieces that the other people on course produced, I'm sure that they have confidence too. Especially as they were 1st time stone cutters aged 16 upwards. If you're uncertain, don't be. Sebastian will guide you."

"Received the course as a surprise but very welcome gift. Never worked with stone before but felt reassured from the first contact with Sebastian that I’d be able to make something meaningful to me. Sebastian is an encouraging and expert presence, always available for advice, with a knack for spotting just what help is needed and when. The small group size was perfect and sociable. All equipment was provided. Hot drinks and log burner were warm and comfortable on the coldest of days. Beautiful setting, relaxed yet purposeful vibe. "My niece and I did this course as total beginners, we absolutely loved it. I hope to book again. You get absorbed in it and de-stress. Also it’s in a lovely setting. "Thoroughly enjoyed the two days sculpting in stone. The sandstone was softer then I was anticipating so it didn't require a lot of heavy hammering to remove material. Sebastian gave advice and support when needed but allowed complete freedom with design and creation. This was my first experience with stone carving but will definitely be doing it again. Inspirational!"
