I have always been drawn to plants, from rescuing those discarded on waste ground, even as a child! After doing a fine art degree, working as a photographer, I then qualified as a medical herbalist in 1990, after a 6 year course which involved in depth study of many different aspects ( ancient and modern) of plant lore and working with inspiring and experienced herbalists including as Christopher Hedley, Stephen and Carol Church, and Carol Guyett. I work with people who want to learn how to use herbs sustainably in their own lives to enhance health and well being, teaching them how to identify, cultivate, harvest and make remedies, learning and respecting the power of herbs. I continue to combine arts and science, teaching Japanese woodblock printmaking (Mokuhanga) using water based pigments alongside my herbal practice.
"very satisfying course , great teacher very knowledgeable with a enthusiasum that is contagious.

"So pleased you enjoyed the course Malcolm. It’s my aim to empower and enthuse people so very glad to hear you are inspired to grow your own medicine and go forward with it in your life ! "
"Last weekend's 2-day introduction to herbal medicine workshop was very enjoyable. Rowan is very knowledgeable and I liked her informal teaching style. The group was also lovely (there were 6 of us + Rowan). Seeing, identifying, touching and nibbling on quite a range of herbs that are growing in her fabulous garden was a treat. I have more confidence now to use herbs more often in food and also in preparations like balms, tinctures and creams."

"Thanks sandra, and I’m so happy that you enjoyed the course. June is such a great time to meet the herbs in flower 🙏🏼🦋🌸"
"My sister and I recently attended this course and had such a wonderful weekend. We learnt so much about the power of herbs and how to use them to enrich our lives. Rowan is a fantastic teacher, her informal workshop allowed us to learn so much in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We really enjoyed the practical aspect of how to make our ointments, creams and teas. Something we would definitely continue to do at home too. She has a beautiful garden where we were able to walk around and identify the plants we were talking about too. Looking forward to attending another course of Rowan's in the near future! "

"Had a lovely time on the herbal medicine chest course on Saturday. Learnt lots and came home ready to make nettle tea and sage tea to help ease my daughter’s sore throat. Rowan welcomed us all and shared her wealth of knowledge in a practical manner. Will be going to further courses in the future. Thank you for an informative day "
