Donna Trett reviewed: Pottery throwing sessions on the potter's wheel in Norfolk

"Wonderful experience. Pat was very knowledgeable and helpful. I am a wheelchair user and Pat did everything she could to enable me to take part. You do need to be partially ambulatory and take a carer with you as the seat to the wheel is static."

Pat Southwood responded:

"Many thanks, you made some good pots! , I'm really pleased that you enjoyed yourself and that all the practicalities worked out O.K."

It was a fun way to spend a morning and I would recommend it to anyone who fancies a little taster of what it’s like to use a potter’s wheel. I was delighted that we managed to make some reasonable pots with Pat’s help. It was also really fascinating to hear about her career and see some the beautiful pieces she has made."

"What a fantastic experience! My partner and I did a taster session for her birthday recently and we had such a great time. Pat was brilliant throughout, very easy going and chatty, she guided us through every step of the process and made us feel really confident. A perfect spot for pot throwing and a lovely walk afterwards with tea and cakes by the water's edge. If we didn't live in Cumbria we'd be back again soon it will definitely be booking again as an excuse for another holiday to Norfolk. Couldn't recommend Pat highly enough."

"Delighted you both enjoyed yourselves, you made some great pots - thank you for your kind words."

Abby reviewed: Pottery throwing sessions on the potter's wheel in Norfolk

"A great experience! Pat is an amazing teacher, very welcoming, friendly and encouraging! The two hours flew by so quickly and I was able to produce several pots, two of which were then glazed, fired and ready for me to collect a few weeks later. Pat was happy to answer any questions I had and made some further recommendations for equipment, evening classes, etc. I would recommend the taster session to anyone wishing to try something new, and it also makes a lovely gift. Thanks again Pat!"

Pat Southwood responded:

"Very happy to hear that you enjoyed yourself, you produced some great work! Good luck if you continue your journey in clay."

Sarah Smith reviewed: One day pottery making course for 2 people in Norwich, Norfolk

"Pat presented the day at a straightforward, let’s crack on pace. We weren’t overwhelmed with technical restrictions and were encouraged to decide what we wanted to make after looking at some inspirational books. The day was about making and making we did... in the morning we created a coil pot and in the afternoon threw various shapes on the wheel. We are two aspiring potters of different ability (one complete novice and one with a little experience) and we found the workshop perfectly pitched. We’ve already booked a second workshop! Excellent day."

Pat Southwood responded:

"Thank you for your kind review, you both worked hard with patience and enthusiasm and produced some good pots; looking forward to seeing you both again in the Spring for another day of making."

Lee reviewed: Pottery throwing sessions on the potter's wheel in Norfolk

"I purchased a two hour taster session (for two people) for my daughters 16th birthday. I wasn’t expecting my daughter to take me along with her but I’m so glad she did, we had a wonderful time. Pat was so welcoming, knowledgable and clearly passionate about pottery. She was a fantastic tutor, patient and tailored her assistance to our individual needs. I thoroughly recommend this experience and expect we will look to do it again soon. We are looking forward to collecting our fired and glazed pots to see how they came out. Her studio is perfectly placed for a visit to Salhouse Broad too, so we did that afterwards and bought ice cream!"

Abbi reviewed: One day pottery making course for 2 people in Norwich, Norfolk

"Had an enjoyable day 'potter-ing'. Went with the hope of 1 decent pot - but with Pat's patient tutelage made 10 'organic' creations! Not too many were relegated into the Bin of Shame. A lovely location and Pat's sense of humour made for a Grand Day Out. Fabulous lunch whilst watching the snow fall! Very therapeutic and I'm looking forward to collecting the post firing results. Thank you Pat."

"A thoroughly enjoyable experience on every level! Pat is a fantastic teacher who guided me over the two hours from being a complete novice to producing some fairly decent and totally useable pots! A very relaxed and friendly atmosphere made this a great activity to completely switch off from the hum drum and get immersed in learning new skills. Superb tea too Pat! Kate reviewed: Hand Building For Smoke Firing

"Just spent an excellent day hand building pots ready for smoke firing. Lovely venue in Pat's workshop, excellent 'learn by doing' approach with plenty of tools and slips to play with. We had a mix of experienced and newbie potters, and we all made pots we're proud of. The small class sizes (can only be 4 or 5 at a time) work well as there is plenty of tutor attention but also a really relaxed social atmosphere. Good value for money as (unlike other courses I've tried) as well as the day's experience I feel like I made a good number of rather nice pots. Looking forward to the smoke firing day now."
