"It was very enjoyable because, as a complete beginner, I found cutting glass hard but with help and encouragement I am very pleased with what I achieved. We all produced very different pieces and learnt to use most techniques. I would recommend Matthew Le Bretton."

"Agree with the reviews below about the ambience and support. In comparison with many courses advertised, a big difference is that Matt encourages you to bring your own design and then he will help you realise it, making constructive suggestions for modifications if some elements won't work in glass otherwise. A wide range of different projects and three different techniques being learned on the course I attended, which is a tribute to his flexibility! Very enjoyable and highly recommended."

"I went to a day course with Matt, entertaining serious doubts that I would be able to realise a mock-up I had done previously. But when Matt saw it, he immediately went into overdrive and produced a number of possible ways to achieve it. His set-up at the DAAW near Silverton runs like clockwork and he oversees the projects that people bring, with a calm enthusiasm and care. He made sure that everyone (around 9) had all the attention they needed, whatever their level of experience. I couldn't have been more impressed, and found myself wishing I had had that quality of guidance when I was a student. I have to say, I'm a fan. John Harris, professional artist."

"I’ve just finished a fabulous day with Matt creating a complicated and beautiful stained glass panel. I designed something I thought was quite simple but was actually very fiddly, but with Matt’s patience and expertise I have completed a piece of art I’m thrilled with and proud of. Can’t recommend this course highly enough."

"An excellent course - great tuition, tips, tools, materials and support while we learnt all the techniques we needed to get our stained glass moved from novice to informed aspirant. We are now starting to do our own work and will be back to Matt for further courses."

"Had a great day yesterday with Matt Le Breton at his dedicated workshop near Silverton. This is my second visit to Matt's workshop for leaded glass and it didn't disappoint. Matt is an excellent teacher who advises and guides you to develop your own project. Just enough help which allows you to make progress If you are passionate about glass and want to know more, learn new techniques in a motivating environment then I highly recommend this course and this fantastic teacher!"

"I attended a one day stained glass course on Sunday and loved every minute, the day flew by in a flash. Matt is a fantastic teacher and offers just the right amount of assistance, whilst also leaving you to work on your own so you feel like the finished piece is your own work. He's incredibly skillful and it was a pleaseure to spend the day working with him and the others on the course. I'll definitely be returning to do more glass work....it's very addictive. Let me know when you run your glass mosaic class Matt, I'd love to come along."

"This is an excellent course, and Matt gives individual tuition and encouragement to all concerned. The choice and colours of glass and the methods used to produce lovely pieces of work makes for a very enjoyable day and all concerned were happy with their results. This course is addictive and to anyone who is looking for an opportunity to learn or develop a new skill in a relaxed atmosphere with friendly like-minded people I'd say - give it a go - you won't be disappointed. I'm just looking forward to the next class!"

"Family friendly classes. Another class another group of students. Matthew le Breton was able to continue with makers of different abilities and intentions. I was impressed how he handled a lively boy of about 10, building on the parts of to work which most appealed, whilst making sure that not only was everyone safe but also progressed their own projects. Matthew encouraged a calmer, safer, quieter and more thoughtful approach to help the youngster to employ his love of cutting (rather expensive) glass as a means of creating an abstract mozaic panel. The foil wrapping was found to be frustrating for the less dexterous and Matthew also found time to assist in this. As a teacher myself I might encourage parents in family groups to take on more of an 'assistant' role if only to share out Mathew's necessary attention between other course participants. I think that parents might need to be aware for some children, the whole day might be too long and more frequent food breaks and variation in activities or a half day session might sustain short attention spans better."

"Lost my stained glass course after many years when the local council made sweeping budget cuts. Couldn't believe my good fortune when my daughter booked me up for this while staying locally. Only wish it could have been a week! Thank you, Matt, for your skills, your enthusiasm and detailed support. Very much hope to come again!"

"It is a rare treat to be able to take a weekend “out” to spend crafting and I could not have wished for more convivial company or a more ideal location in which to do so. From being met on arrival to departure on Sunday afternoon the whole weekend was filled with high quality instruction in the art of stained glass, encompassing both copper foiling and leading, cutting techniques and glass painting. The latter was my particular interest as I have some experience of cutting and leading and my pre agreed project was designed around this desire.Matt gave encouragement and information in equal measure and I would feel confident to continue this type of work in my kiln at home now. I would not have been able to experience half as much technique had the gas kiln which he brought not been so amazingly quick for firing so that I could process the pieces through multiple firings each day, to accomplish colour and silver staining several times, so if painting stained glass is your thing then Matt is your man! Oh, and do stay overnight, the food at the Kingcombe centre was superb, plentiful, delicious and wholesome and the accommodation clean and comfortable, though WiFi and phone signal a little difficult to find. Maybe in hindsight another bonus as who wants to be distracted by the world from such a beautiful crafting bubble?"

"Rare to have the opportunity to work alongside a true master craftsman who has the patience and teaching skill needed to build creative and practical confidence in a short space of time. My 10 yr old daughter and I have loved making stained glass panels and learning glass painting techniques in Matt’s classes and now feel confident to try making stained glass at home. Highly recommend."

"What a weekend! Went in with very little glass experience and a vague design idea, came out with a lovely leaded piece and a couple of small copper foiled pieces I manage to make in extra time, as my design was fairly simple. But one of the main message of the course is... don't rush! Matt is a patient and very knowledgeable teacher, goes through every step, including different techniques, giving you the option to pick your own 'glass journey'. We went through everything from glass cutting, painting, leading and copper foiling. Some students made stunning intricate pieces and skill level ranged from beginner to advanced, so something for everyone. Have to mention the amazing Kingcombe Centre - a beautiful venue in a nature reserve, which allowed us to relax and focus on our work as well as unwinding in a beautiful setting. I chose the residential option; the accommodation was lovely and the food was incredible! All locally sourced, delicious, and huge portions. This really was a holiday as well as a workshop! I went on Matt's one day glass painting course previously and cannot recommend his classes highly enough."

"Matthew le Bretton's traditional and Tiffany stained glass course was all it promised. He takes care to have prior notice of individual plans and so he welcomes us with suitable equipment and materials. He is well aware of H&S issues and has protective equipment and gives good instruction, The gradual progress and demonstration means that we can all move forward confidently without overload. He is well supported by Nina, assistant, so that there is always someone to hand to help and remind us. The regular monthly Sundays give scope for larger projects and investigation and I expect to be a regular attender to these workshops so conveniently located (for me) in Bradninch. What a marvellous discovery.I have been to several stained glass workshops in my quest for skills and to find one so excellent and close to home is a gift indeed!"

"What a great day! It absolutely flew by. Matt’s enthusiasm for working with glass is infectious and his knowledge about his specialisation is vast! We packed lots into the day but it felt very relaxed. We were able to work at our own pace as our projects took shape and if needed help and advice was at hand. I’m really pleased with the finished piece. I can’t wait to try something a little more challenging next time."

"The teaching was excellent with techniques demonstrated from the start. In a short time I was ready to have a go at the basics, and by the end of the day I felt completely at ease cutting glass and using all of the tools provided. I really enjoyed the day, everyone was friendly and there was a warm atmosphere. I appreciated being taught by someone who is skilled, relaxed and happy to share their knowledge. I am more than happy to recommend this course. A very enjoyable day !!"
