Karl is an artist who works and lives in Portsmouth, his work is focused on the people and community of the city through portraiture. His work has been exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery, London, Southampton City Art Gallery and Dean Gallery of the National Galleries of Scotland, Edinburgh as part of the BP Awards, also the Royal Academy and Royal Society of Marine Artists. His work resides in public collections including the Royal Navy and Portsmouth City Museum.

"I applied to join this course with uncertainty as I was almost a total beginner in the art of drawing and painting. Over the course of the two days Karl spent time explaining step by step the whole process but also allowing you to experiment . I would never have imagined that I could have completed a portrait of my partner which was so like her. I thoroughly enjoyed the 2 days and will definitely return for another weekend . "Really enjoyed the two days - only 3 'pupils' (it takes place in Karls studio) so lot of one-to-one guidance. Karl is also painting one of his own portraits from scratch so you can really see what he is reaching in action. Lovely atmosphere. Would do another workshop with him and recommend it."
