Jenni has shared traditional rag rug techniques of hooking, progging and plaiting for many years. She believes in re-using, sourcing locally and treading lightly on the planet.
Whilst bringing rag rug making into the twenty-first century, Jenni honours the generations of ordinary people who used their cast-off clothing to make warm mats and loves helping people to explore their creativity through such an accessible medium at courses locally and around the country.
"Really enjoyed the day. Good to see the variety of weights of fabric that everyone was using, and the different effects that resulted. When I've finished my project with old tee shirts, I'm keen to try something with tweed scraps."
Jenni's Rag Rugs responded:
"I'd love to see your tee shirt project when you finish and then what you do with tweeds. I love tweeds!
I always enjoy working with a small group and making new friends."
"Thanks Jenni.
The workshop was great, really helpful learning new techniques and getting tips on how to make the best of the materials etc.
I came away with a better understanding of plaiting and now feel more confident in knowing when to use it in my making.
Kind regards
Kathy"
Jenni's Rag Rugs responded:
"So glad you found it useful Kathy, and I hope to see pictures of what you make. "
"Jenni was a brilliant teacher. The course was well organised and prepared. It really helped having a piece of hessian marked, it made it easier for me start and quickly develop a scheme.
The venue was also excellent. It was the hottest day of the year but stayed cool and fresh.
Jenni's sharing of her knowledge and expertise helped to set rug making in context and helped me to gain confidence and enthusiasm for the art/craft.
Many thanks
Kathy"
Jenni's Rag Rugs responded:
"
Glad you enjoyed it Kathy and I look forward to seeing what you made, when it is finished."
"A very enjoyable and instructive day which certainly lived up to expectations. Gentle encouragement from Jenni and pleasant company from the other participants. Lots of ideas to carry on this totally addictive craft with no expensive outlay for either equipment or materials. A great sense of recycling with a purpose to produce something attractive and useable from virtually nothing. Many thanks Jenni."
Jenni's Rag Rugs responded:
"I am so glad you enjoyed the day, as I did. It certainly is recycling with a purpose."
