"Roger is passionate about what he does and it shows in his teaching. I went with no preconceived ideas but needed to understand the different mechanics of soldering, brazing and welding. Roger was more than able to discuss and demonstrate them and more besides. I have never micro soldered before and fell in love with it. I really intended to make life size garden sculptures but fell in love with his small sculptures. He was incredibly generous with his time, materials and knowledge and I hope to do more with him in the future."

"Brilliant and informative course - thoroughly recommended! I attended a one to one course with Roger for the day yesterday. Beforehand Roger had liaised regarding my level of expertise - absolute novice, the safety equipment required (although he provided most of it) and whether I had a particular form of welding in mind. I had a MIG welder for a Christmas present a couple of years ago which was still in the box. I swapped photos with Roger and he told me what wire etc. I needed. On the day we set-up my welder and plugged it in for the first time and I was welding within minutes under Roger's expert tuition. We covered welding all sorts and thicknesses of materials and the respective settings for the machine with me continuously welding through the day. I was also taught how to use a TIG welder towards the end of course. Very enjoyable, informative and practical course."

"Good day. I'm a total beginner and wanted to do a 'proper' welding project but also to understand exactly what I could do on the creative side. Roger helped that I covered everything I needed and more and I got to play with all the toys I wanted to, I'm certainly going to continue exploring this field. Roger was always around with advice and a cup of tea - even if I ddi show up on the wrong day !. Recommended."

"I struggle with welding and have tried other courses before. Roger managed to identify that I am having problems with my eyesight - I'm off to buy glasses! He ran through the necessary equipment - I now want to buy a TIG welder and he was patient as I struggled with technique. I can now see that I need a great deal of practice to get to a level where I can achieve the kind of projects that I am hoping to achieve. It was certainly a worthwhile experience."

"Roger arranged for the two of us to spend the day in his workshop. Made great use of the time and allowed us to get loads done in the day. We learned the basics of TIG welding and improved our skills during the day, also learned how to brass braze. By the end of the day, we had new metalwork skills and had produced a great sculpture to take home. 5/5. Talk to Roger before the day and he can help you start to think about what is possible to make during the day."

"Roger was a great teacher and looked to make the course personal to me. Whilst I wanted to make a dragonfly I was more interested in learning as many techniques as I could during the day. So we concentrated on making a very delicate dragonfly wing, which incorporated basic and more advanced techniques as well as other techniques needed to complete the dragonfly. All of which would be applicable to other projects. Roger was generous with his knowledge, his supplies and equipment. He has given me the confidence to try the more challenging shapes. Lots of ideas to move forward with!!!! I don’t know where the time went and at the end of the day I felt excited and confident to try more shapes and equipment to complete my dragonfly. Thank you Roger"

"I had a day course yesterday together with my friend. Neither of us has even soldered before but we managed to make good clean joins because Roger is a very good teacher. Projects will take some time to finish at home, but Roger was able to tell us the equipment and materials we would need, which are actually quite minimal. Just the right amount of help, shows you how to do it but does not do it for you! I would recommend to anyone who enjoys craftwork of any sort."

"Roger is brilliant. I really enjoyed this course. Although my soldering skills were / are lacking, Roger was very patient and supportive. It was not my expectation to come away with a completed project, so I was not disappointed not to have done. What I did come away with, that was totally unexpected however, was a thorough knowledge and understanding of how what Roger has to teach can be applied to any project I would want to develop for myself, which in my opinion is priceless. It was a pleasure to spend the day with someone who is genuinely enthusiastic about what they have to teach, easy company and very very good at what he does. Roger was very patient and gave just the right amount of help to ensure we learnt the correct techniques but still came away with a good start to our project. "I received a private day's tuition with Roger as a Christmas present from my parents and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to learn anything to do with wire-soldering and/or wire sculpture in any form with or without any experience (I had none in this area!). I like to do all kinds of crafts but what makes this a truly unique experience is that Roger is not only teaching techniques you don't learn in mainstream courses but also tailors the day to whoever he's teaching; so much better than the rigid tuition you'd receive with adult education courses. We covered so much, it was a lovely relaxed day and I came away bursting with ideas of what I could make and do with what I'd learnt. I went straight out and bought a soldering iron and I've been using the techniques at home and combining with my hobby of jewellery making as well as creating a few steampunk-style pieces too. Highly recommended for both those who want to come home with a beautiful finished piece after their experience day and those who want to learn the techniques to take with them in future."

"My girlfriend and I had the pleasure of joining Roger for a day of private tuition! He introduced us to a range of exciting new mediums that we had not used before. Braising was a revelation! Seeing his work in the flesh was exciting. His precision is beyond impressive, even if I am a bit more haphazard! Overall it was fun sharing stories and learning new skills over plenty of cups of tea! We came away with nice creations too."

"Went to Roger wanting to be able to form wire fairy/dragonfly wings and solder. After going through the tools and getting fmiliar with stretching/bending wires we got on to soldering. In less than a day I manage to produce a really nice set of wings and went away with lots of ideas for things to try. I've been back and learnt to dome copper sheet and get a bit more advaced with my soldering skills. Roger is a patient tutor who showed me what to do , explaining why we were doing it and then letting me have a go at it until I needed him to step in and help. Got good results and now have lots of ideas of what I could make. I also now have 5 or 6 projects on the go including a full size wire head and several different wing shapes. Would recommend this course for anyone wanting to have a go but put off by how hard they think it is, its really not!"
