"I was given this experience as a gift and wasn’t sure what to expect - I haven’t done this sort of thing before. As soon as you arrive Dave (our instructor) was friendly and welcoming. His method of teaching is formative and delivered with clarity ensuring every step is understood to maintain safety while keeping the day fun. You are left to do as much of the knife making as possible and Dave has stills confidence I. You as you go while being patient and supporting where needed. I was amazed at how well my knife came out - I put my success down to Dave’s support during the day. I would recommend this experience to anyone and plan on going back to make another very soon. "

"I attended a kitchen knife making course together with a friend yesterday at Hand Forged Yorkshire with Dave Brearey. The whole experience from start to finish was fantastic. Everything from the communication, and preparation beforehand, through to the day itself, was clear, timely and very professional. Dave the instructor is extremely knowledgable and passionate about his craft; he is keen that clients get the fullest of experiences; he only intervenes when when required (but keeps it to a minimum), to ensure that clients stay safe and get something that they are proud of and is completely functional to take home at the end of the process. Dave is a really nice guy, that puts a lot of effort into quality of experience. This includes, the raw materials used, equipment on which activities are performed, and above all else safety for his clients and others. I would thoroughly recommend this experience. A really insightful and enjoyable experience."

"I arrived with no experience of knife-making – I departed with a beautifully crafted blade that is as aesthetically appealing as it is practically serviceable. Dave is a modest, yet accomplished craftsman, who is a gifted teacher, a clear communicator and a patient tutor – a person who puts you at ease from the outset and encourages you every step of the way. The course is well organised and ambitious without being daunting. Dave explains each knife-crafting process, demonstrating where necessary, before supervising as you give it a go, offering encouragement and advice. "We really enjoyed this course. David made us feel very at ease. We were late, and I had an allergy that meant I couldn't wear the normal gloves and he took this in his stride and was very kind. He is massively knowledgeable about resin and was able to apply his knowledge to my partner's interest. The session felt friendly throughout whilst also being safe and informative. It can be daunting trying something new, as you inevitably go wrong and David was happy to talk though common errors and how to overcome them and helped us when we went wrong in the session. We really enjoyed it and can't wait to see our blocks."

It started with a thorough safety briefing, and they provided all the necessary gear to keep us protected throughout. Our instructor, Dave, has been a knife maker for over eight years, and his passion and knowledge were evident. The course is designed for you to do most of the work, making the finished knife a true accomplishment. However, Dave was always there to offer guidance, build confidence, and lend a hand when needed. My brothers and I had a fantastic day – we truly enjoyed ourselves and haven't stopped talking about it since. I can't stress enough how much value this course offered – it was absolutely worth the money."

"Had an absolutely brilliant day at the Forge with Dave. He walked us through every step of the way ensuring we ended up leaving with something I definitely didn't think I could have made! I did the course with my step-dad and a friend, and it was a full days experience from 10-4 ish with about 30 minutes lunch break. I can't recommend this experience highly enough. I have already told a few friends who are keen to book on. I have added some pictures to show what we started with and what we finished with. We all chose a different style of knife and a different wood for the handle too. Thanks again Dave (sorry it took me so long to write this review)."
