Maker's bio

After a 24 year teaching career, specialising in carpentry, woodworking and woodturning, I qualified as a DATA accredited trainer, delivering subject and machine training to teaching staff in schools and colleges all over the UK. Due to my passion for woodworking in general, which is my hobby as well as my occupation, I have now decided to start offering courses at my fully equipped workshop in Stockport, for people who share the same passion.

"I needed Mick to bring me back up to scratch after a 15 year break from woodturing. He was able to pitch the course taking into account what I could remember and what I had to re-learn. I had an enjoyable 2 days, managing a pen, nightlight candle holder, honey dipper and a bowl. I got to use one of his brand new lathes, unfortunately I don't think domestic control will let me buy one!! If you are wondering whether to do Mick's course - don't wonder. Do it!!"

"Just finished this 2 day introductory woodturning course. Mick is an absolute star! Knowledgeable, helpful and supportive throughout. His large garden teaching workshop is amazing! The course was well paced and allowed me to progress to a confidence on the lathe I hadn't expected, and at then end I walked away with FOUR finished projects I was really proud of! "This was two days of blissful and purposeful activity. I was a complete novice at wood turning, but nevertheless came away with four pieces of work what I am really satisfied with, and which I thoroughly enjoyed making. Each project felt just a bit more challenging than the previous one. Mick is a patient and encouraging trainer, and great company to be with. The workshop is light and airy, and all the tools and materials are very good quality. In addition I felt safe at all times. I would heartily recommend this course to anyone who wants to create something beautiful."
