Christine reviewed: Crochet for Beginners (Adults) in Putney

"I highly recommend this course. As a beginner, I really benefited from the face to face tuition and learned so much more than online videos that i had tried. Sowmya is a friendly, patient and effective teacher. I learned a lot, produced a couple of my first ever crochet items and it was a lovely touch having my own course materials to take away so I can practice based on the great foundation that this course has provided."

"This was a brilliant course, I have now done 3 courses and 2 workshops with Kate and hope to do more in the future. If you love books, papercraft and handmade items then this is the course for you - you will learn a good variety of different techniques, my own favourites are book transformations and making the hand-stitched books."

Lyndsey, Geoff, Freya and Sophie reviewed: Pembrokeshire Maddie Janes Mosaic

"We were given a voucher for a two hour workshop as a wedding present and what a fabulous present it was. We had a really lovely time and it was great to be able to do a craft activity as a family (our daughters are 5 and 8). It was such a nice relaxed environment and we all enjoyed creating something together. Maddie was really helpful and encouraging and we ended up with a piece of mosiac art that we hope to keep forever (it even survived a five hour car journey). I can't recommend highly enough, we definitely hope to return."

Nerys Jones and Pat Bean reviewed: Encaustic Art - What do you want to learn?

"A fantastic day taking us through the basics of encaustic art right through to some interesting challenges. Mel was a very patient and enthusiastic tutor who was willing to share her wealth of knowledge. A very varied programme had been planned and gave us the opportunity to try out a range of techniques. The encaustic art is a very multi-faceted medium which we look forward to mastering. Practice make perfect! We have several pieces of art which we are looking forward to framing. Fabulous setting and a lovely lunch prepared by Mel's husband. Many thanks."

"What a great day, with excellent help from Alison and Emily. I made a pair of 'Willow' shoes which fit extremely well. Our feet were measured and we had the chance to try on different styles and sizes to help work out what was right for me. I would recommend this course for anyone who is interested in making shoes and I would love to learn more. Thank you."

"I've always loved stained glass,so it was lovely surprise when I was booked on a course at Lightworks as a birthday treat. I was an absolute beginner, so I couldn't believe it when I had completed my stained glass panel at the end of the day- (thanks to the fantastic teaching, support and patience of Daniel and Abby!!) I would highly recommend this course. Thanks once again Daniel and Abby for a wonderful day. You are both stars!!"

"I loved this course! Kate is a great teacher and I enjoyed making every piece she taught us. I have displayed the book sculptures I made in my home and made some lovely unique hand made gifts for family and friends. I've also found it easy to make things myself at home after what I've learned with Kate. A course I'd definitely recommend!"

John Beckett reviewed: Glass fusing with artist Patricia Lee - as seen on BBC1 Home Is Where The Art Is

"Had a fantastic day on the Stained glass course. I made a panel. Learnt loads and got a great meal. What's made me book the next course on fusing is the great informal learning experience you get at Patricia's. I've made my cutting board already and have started buying the tools. What more can I say. John"

Luke Tinklin reviewed: Shoemaking Workshop

"The course was very enjoyable, challenging and interesting. The workshop leaders Alison and Emily were enthusiatic, helpful and friendly. The pace of the course was good and I was able to select the leather and colours to use myself. You are guided on how to make the shoe rather than handheld through the process, which was great and as an inexperienced sewer, was given the freedom to practice on the sewing machines first. At the end of the day I had created my own pair of shoes and left feeling very proud of what I had achieved. A very nice way to spend a Saturday - i'd recommend the workshop to anyone and everyone!"

"An excellent day picking up new skills and learning so much about stained glass work. Abby and Dan are great teachers and help out when things get tricky eg the soldering. And at the end, it was great to produce a finished glass panel that looks terrific in the light. Thanks Dan and Abby for a great day. So many more questions to ask now so I'll have to book it again!"

Robby Tucker reviewed: Improvers Hand Spinning - Next Steps in Hand Spinning - at All in a Spin

"Wonderful full day of learning. Knowing Dunja from the Beginners Course created a relaxed atmosphere. I learnt about the different ratios, thickness, different fleece fibres; how to comb, drum card, blend and so much more. I came away with lots of samples and my head full of ideas and enthusiasm to get going on new projects. An inspirational course in a marvellous setting. Thoroughly recommended."

Dee Callaghan reviewed: Jewellery Summer School

"Excellent in every respect. This was my second visit to Flux ‘n Flame, but my first summer school, which allowed more time to develop ideas. As always Jesa and Al were superb in their patience, clear explanations and general encouragement. I came away feeling that I’d definitely learned new skills and had the goods to prove it. Although I have to travel a great distance to get to Dorset, it’s worth every bit of the effort. I shall return!"

Faustina Bayo reviewed: Introduction to traditional green wood turning course

"I knew i was going to enjoy the day, what i didn't expect was how great the trainer would turn out to be. Simon was brilliant, he was very approachable, patient and definitely knows his stuff. What i created was beyond my expectations and i now truly appreciate the beauty and dedication that goes into every piece of product. I surely aim to go back. I will recommend my friends to book a session with him. Thank you for making my day and thank you for making me more interested in greenwood carving"

Tom B reviewed: Introduction to traditional green wood turning course

"Had a really fun day yesterday with Simon trying the Pole Lathe (#2899). The course was very well run and enjoyable, highlights for me were: 1. Teaching style, a nice balance of leaving you to try things and stepping in to guide when needed. 2. Simon's enthusiasm for all aspects of wood working and the forest (and interest to share knowledge) 3. Location, being in the forest for the course was very nice 4. Coming away with a nice finished product (a "dibber") after starting with no experience and a simple log was very satisfying 5. Approach to safety is sensible and clear without being over the top. Overall highly recommended."

Gill Buckley reviewed: Glass Art - two day course in stained glass (traditional leaded or copper foil "Tiffany" technique)

"Matt is a wonderfully calm and inspiring teacher. She is extraordinarily patient and obviously derives joy from her pupils gaining confidence and skills. I had a real sense of achievement from producing my first piece of appliqué glass work that is now gracing my mantelpiece. She has much to offer the beginner as well as those with more experience within the visual arts. The surroundings are tranquil; I particularly loved sitting on the swing seat in the garden that reminded me of special moments in my childhood. I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending her courses and tuition to anyone who wanted an enriching creative break and a time for rest for their soul."

Lea Parkyn reviewed: Beginners Hand spinning - 'From fleece to fibre’ - at All in a Spin

"Glorious day learning a wonderful craft with a patient, knowledgable tutor. I really enjoyed understanding the journey from first shearing, preparing the fleece, carding, spinning, plying and then processing the spun fibre. Dunja is great host and I came away with a basic understanding of spinning and enough knowledge to progress. I recommend Dunja if you're considering learning this beautiful craft."

Emma Delaney reviewed: Beginners Hand spinning - 'From fleece to fibre’ - at All in a Spin

"A wonderful day learning to spin. Dunja is friendly, helpful, patient and very knowledgeable about her sheep and her craft. We learnt everything from how to select fleece, to washing, carding, spinning and plying. So thrilled to have a skein of my own yarn to take home and play with, even if it is a bit full of 'slubs' (picking up the spinning lingo too!). I now have a great wheel from Dunja to start practising at home with. Tigger and Blossom (friendly cats) provided great entertainment, lunch was delicious and the views from the farm are to die for. A lovely day out."

Philippa Neal reviewed: Encaustic Art - What do you want to learn?

"I had a lovely day with Mel. I was a complete novice so she took me through the basics of working with wax and iron and stylus, and using different papers and techniques to get different effects. I wanted to learn something new and completely different so Mel taylored it and it was a fantastic beginners introduction. A very relaxed day in lovely surroundings. The possibilities with encaustic art seem endless and so varied and it was great fun. I came away with some pictures that i felt very pleased with considering it was my first time. I would recommend the course to anyone wanting to try something different. You will definitely enjoy it!"
