Andy Thorne reviewed: Woodturning in Devon with Colin Simpson

"I had a really good and very helpful day with Colin. His relaxed style and patient manner made learning the basics relaxing but informative. I felt like safety was there throughout but without being rammed down your throat and he was happy to let you try things for a moment before correcting you or tweaking your technique. I had only turned a few items before by just sticking something on the lathe and hoping for the best so Colin was great for a proper intro to turning and basic techniques as well as sharpening tools and what to use when. I'll have to go back to improve my spindle work i reckon!"

Joe Headley reviewed: Wood turning courses

"Having just experienced the most enjoyable three day course with George I felt it deserved to be recorded so that others may benefit and be made aware of an opportunity to get a marvellous treat in the art of woodturning. George’s methodical and professional approach to instruction is an art in itself. His technical ability and skills are second to none and he is blessed with the added ability to put the topic across to students with consummate ease. All aspects were covered, health and safety, machinery, tools and an in depth knowledge of the material to be worked. This gives any student lucky enough to participate in one of George’s workshops a great platform from which he or she can thereafter travel through the wonders of turning, colouring and texturing wood. I personally benefitted from George’s great knowledge in all these aspects. His patience is unlimited and the one quality which makes the difference between someone who mechanically instructs and a great teacher. I hope to be lucky enough to return to Burnham to reinforce the skills and theory collected in the last few days, perhaps I may see you there."

Nina Payne reviewed: Realistic and Adorable Needle Felt Animals & Pets

"A wonderful day! Sophie is a brilliant, engaging and patient teacher and we were amazed at how quickly our pieces took shape under her guidance. She starts from the beginning but also shares tips on more advanced techniques to get your model just right. The class size enabled Sophie to give everyone individual attention and the setting is extremely relaxing. Lunch provided by Sophie's mum is also brilliant and made the whole day just seem an extra special treat! My daughter and I had a fantastic day out together and we were inspired to do more needle felting at home (Sophie also sell very good starter packs to take away). All in all I cannot fault this course!"

Viv reviewed: Feltmaking OOH the choices!

"I have never done anything like this before and was a little hesitant . I needn't have worried. The very patient Barbara ensured we were all fully trained at each stage and was happy to re-explain points when necessary. We had a good laugh whilst watching our scarfs appear before our very eyes. Barbara even provided a delicious lunch . I came away delighted with my creation and have given it as a present to another friend. She has decided to go on a course with Barbara as well . What a great day. Thank you Barbara"

"The highlight of my week! I am absolutely loving the pop up pottery studio. Caroline provides a relaxed environment and personalised guidance to allow you to develop your skills and style. Abi Clarke reviewed: Introduction to candle-making as a business

"Such a lovely day spent with Jo and another super lady at Jo's beautiful house. I'd always wanted to learn how to make candles the right way & Jo not only taught us the ins and outs of how to make candles and other beautiful little items but gave us some brilliant contacts so we could go away and start making candles at home. I came home with having made a selection of candles having met lovely people. Absolutely worth the money and would highly recommend to anyone who wants to learn candle making for their own venture or just to learn a new skill and have a fab day xx"

Susie May reviewed: Gelli Printmaking with No5workshops Group Booking

"The setting for the course is inspirational and the workshop is very user friendly with all tools and materials readily at hand to use as needed. I attended a one day course on jelli printing. I had never seen this media being used before so I was a complete novice. The course starts with a short powerpoint presentation covering the key aspects of the skill and then Armi shows everyone how to get started and you're off. The numbers were small enabling Armi to give all members of the course exactly what they need throughout the day. If you get stuck or need to be shown something again or if you need inspiration Armi is at hand to help you along. By the end of the day I had produced some really lovely prints and also learnt how to stitch some of the prints into a little booklet. We stopped for a delicious lunch. In addition to what I learnt and took home (feeling very pleased with myself) I also met some lovely people who were on the course too. All in all a brilliant day out!"

Grace Gourevitch reviewed: Felt Flowers - Mothers Day Special with Lunch!

"Thank you for an excellent session where I was able to reinforce the core techniques of the stages of felt making , and to improve my understanding of adding colour and texture. The exercise of making flowers focused on shaping and finishing to obtain textures and arrangements that suggested a selected botanical form, and I improved my understanding of developing detail through the whole process. The session was tailored to my previous experience and delivered in a positive and encouraging style. The access, premises , teaching materials and refreshments added to the pleasure of the session and I hope to return for further courses."

Nina Lazarski reviewed: Introduction to Frame Loom Weaving

"What a lovely way to spend the day...time with Alice and 2 other creative ladies learning how to weave, sharing stories, being inspired by Alice's work and the Hotwalls Studios. It was a lovely peaceful space interspersed with Alice's patient guidance and instructions and cups of tea. I came away feeling that I'd really accomplished something unique and found the process of weaving meditative and exciting. I still have more to learn and hope eventually to buy my own small hand loom."
