"Very enjoyable day at firebird forge, Mort has good practical safety rules that make you feel comfortable and he is a nice and interesting person to spend the day with. Mort is very knowledgeable on the subjected and explained everything in a easy to understand way with as much background information as you could want, a good fun experience and I made something to take home and treasure. A great day, thank you."

Jan Pimblett reviewed: Amazing encaustic art day course

"I had a very enlightening and creative workshop day with Phil on Friday 8 December. I am an absolute beginner with encaustic painting but gained in confidence through excellent teaching and lots of enthusiasm from both of us! It was an exciting workshop and I left wanting to do more and explore ideas further. I will be going back for a more advanced class in the New Year which I am greatly looking forward to. I would recommend Phil's workshop to anyone wanting to try out encaustic techniques. It's a great way in to the possibilities of working in this way and excellent value for money."

Bridget and Neill reviewed: Wood turning tuition, New Forest, Hampshire (1 day) (2 people)

"I booked the day course (for two) as a birthday surprise for my other half and we both thoroughly enjoyed the day. Graham is an excellent teacher, providing an informative and inspiring experience. He imparts the right mix of encouragement and instruction to give complete beginners the confidence to get stuck in. He seems adaptable; aware; knowledgeable; and experienced at engaging with people at the right level. We became completely absorbed in using the lathe and tools, and were delighted to come away with good-sized useable and attractive bowls. We acquired an awareness of the skills we need to progress, respect for the machine, tools and materials. We have the confidence to use the lathe my dad gave us. Most importantly, we felt genuinely welcome by a lovely couple. We came away from a fun day feeling relaxed, refreshed and enthusiastic about our ability to take up wood turning. We planned the Saturday into a weekend break, which was a real treat. In future we would also be happy to drive the 2 hours each way as the day is well worth it."

"Mark very welcoming on arrival and very patient with his teaching. Very hands on and practical. Really had a great day learning how to safely use an axe and different knives. Lunch was wholesome and home made. The best bit was coming away with a spoon that I had carved myself. Thank you for sharing your skills."

Chris Samways reviewed: Private One to One Stained glass by Le Breton Traditional (near Exeter/Crediton/Tiverton)

"This stained glass making day was bought for me as a present. It exceeded all my expectations and I had the most brilliant day. Matt is an excellent teacher so that processes which might at first seem daunting we were all able to take in our stride. All on my course were able to produce stained glass pieces which were beyond our hopes and expectations and there was a huge sense of achievement at being creative in a new way. Those who dropped out of the course at the last minute don't know what they were missing! Thank you, Matt, for a totally fantastic day."

Sue Pilsworth reviewed: Introduction to Leather Craft

"Bill is a true craftsman whose skill and knowledge and ability is impressive and unique within his craft, allowing him to impart a wealth of knowledge to his students. The skills which Bill taught me ranged from learning about leather, the basic saddle stitch, designing and pattern cutting, making a belt, and producing a small nubuck leather bag! Bill was happy to answer all my questions, was patient and very encouraging. I loved the whole weekend, I have returned home wanting to put all my new found skills into practice and am excited about future projects that I wish to make. I feel privileged and grateful to have been able to spend a weekend with such a knowledgeable craftsman and would wholeheartedly recommend a course with Bill. Thank you Bill. Sue P"

shane tiffin reviewed: Wood turning courses in the Midlands

"The one to one day course was a birthday gift from my children. I am quite self conscious when it comes to courses, but had a great day with Mark he is a good teacher. We chatted away but seemed to cover a lot of ground, I learnt a lot and now have a list of things I want to try out. Hands on Mark would demonstrate a cut then watch and offer encouragement and suggestions as I tried to make the cut. I do watch videos when trying to learn techniques but it it is so much better having someone as knowledgeable as Mark standing beside supporting and giving advice especially when learning to use something like a skew chisel."

C & P reviewed: Glass blowing for beginners with Jon Lewis

"My husband and I booked a short glass blowing course for the purpose of making our own Christmas baubles. Jon is an excellent teacher, he talked us through the procedure and explained the reasoning behind the process before we started. Jon was also happy for us to take photos during the class. Neither of us had blown glass before or had any experience in arts/crafts and Jon was very patient with us providing assistance when we needed it. With Jon's assistance and guidance we made 2 baubles each with a variety of colours. It was amazing to see glass in liquid form and to learn how to add colours and shape it. We shall certainly want to return, we had a great time and would definitely recommend the class."

Abbi reviewed: One day pottery making course for 2 people in Norwich, Norfolk

"Had an enjoyable day 'potter-ing'. Went with the hope of 1 decent pot - but with Pat's patient tutelage made 10 'organic' creations! Not too many were relegated into the Bin of Shame. A lovely location and Pat's sense of humour made for a Grand Day Out. Fabulous lunch whilst watching the snow fall! Very therapeutic and I'm looking forward to collecting the post firing results. Thank you Pat."

lorraine reviewed: Knife making Courses Forged Blacksmith Knife

"Can't believe what my husband has just been through for his Christmas present. I believed I had paid for bush knife making course held at a centre. In truth It was at mr S Lewerance's small terrace house. He had gazebo over the back door and some of the work was done in his kitchen. His equipment was not in the best condition and as for health and safety there was none. I really can't believe I paid £250 and then traveled all the way from the midlands and paid for a hotel on Friday night so as not to be late Saturday morning for this. To say I'm I feel cheated just doesn't cover it. Please please please stay away."

Home OF Heritage Craft Courses And Rural skills responded:

"It is a shame but you do get a disgruntled customer from time to time. I have been passed by the HSE and all aspects of safety are in place. I work outside with adequate coverage and it is a forge so it needs to be well aired. I ensure adequate breaks are given as it does get hot - it is a forge after all and the equipment is well maintained. As they say you cannot please all the people all the time. Judge for yourself from the other reviews."

Rachael Bennett reviewed: Glass Fusing for beginners

"I had a wonderful day, learnt so much and gained some new skills. Excellent that there was support there when needed after the first demo. Got on with stuff and guidance and every important step of the way. Then left to it. I could have stayed a lot longer and made much much more. Will most definitely be booking another one. Thank you Gigha"
