Description
Learn traditional wax carving techniques and create your own beautiful and unique silver ring! No previous experience of jewellery making is needed and you will be guided through everything you need to know step-by-step, from sizing rings and sawing and filing wax blocks to carving beautiful details and patterns. Will you choose simple flowing shapes or more intricate patterns? The choice is yours, and it is such a relaxing and fun way of spending a morning or afternoon! After the session you can choose to take your wax ring with you or have it sent for casting into solid sterling silver using the lost wax casting method. There is an extra cost for this (approximately £20), plus an additional £15 if you wish me to hand finish your ring for you. If you usually wear reading glasses please remember to bring them with you. It would also be useful to bring photos and sketches of any ideas that you have, although examples and photos will be available for inspiration. Only 6 places are available to ensure that everyone gets the help and attention they need. 14 to 16 year olds are welcome but will need to be accompanied by a paying adult. Joanne Tinley is a jewellery designer and qualified teacher offering workshops in Hampshire. Please see the other course listings for further workshops available, or get in touch for more details.
What's included in the price?
The cost of the wax is included in the workshop fee, as is the use of all the tools and equipment that you need. You will take away with you all the information you need to continue carving at home or in your own. If you wish me to send your ring for casting this will cost an additional £20 for rings weighing up to 1g of wax, paid for on the day. Casting takes up to two weeks. Cast rings always require some cleaning up, and you can do this at home if you have the tools. If you would like me to finish your ring for you there is a cost of £15. Gold plating can be arranged for your ring. This takes a couple of weeks longer and the price will be calculated on the day. The workshop fee includes use of all the tools and equipment needed. All workshops discuss tools, equipment, materials and health and safety considerations. Tea, coffee, cakes and biscuits are in plentiful supply.
