2 Day Willow Deer Making Workshop. Spend two days in the beautiful Devon countryside learning how to work with this sustainable material. In this workshop you will be taken through a step by step process to your own 4ft willow deer to take home with you. This Willow Deer is constructed from the inside out so we build the structure of the deers skeleton and observe its muscles and anatomy to create a realistic form as opposed to a craft deer. So your sculpture will be almost solid - not hollow. Because these structures are not hollow they will last much longer as outer layers protect the internal structure from the elements. Additionally a steel armature is provided to supporting your structure, which will allow you to fix it in to the ground in your garden - this means that the willow has limited contact with the soil to prevent is breaking down at an accelerated rate. I also give all my participants detailed information on how to treat their deer to make them last longer. I work with small class numbers so I can ensure I have adequate time with each person to help them develop their skill level and learn to understand the nature of willow as a medium and manipulate it effectively. I hope that this workshop will inspire you to continue working with willow and be able to repeat the process yourself.
