Join expert Issy Coe for oil painting for beginners. This course is designed to give students a basic understanding of painting with oil paints. It is aimed at either complete beginners or those who have some experience of painting in other mediums. We will look at materials and equipment and how to prepare a canvas. We will also study composition, colour theory, tonal values. You’ll be taught how to analyse and simplify subject matter and how to make expressive marks with brushes or palette knives. This may all sound quite daunting, but don’t worry all will be explained ! and above all we want you to have fun! Issy is an experienced tutor who will guide you through each stage. You will go home with a piece of work you are proud of. About the tutor Issy Coe: Issy Coe is a professional artist based on the Norfolk/Suffolk border. She has been running regular classes and workshops at her studio since 2009 and exhibits widely, having works in private collections in the UK, USA, South Africa and Australia. Issy was a qualified occupational therapist and started out working in art therapy. She has attended numerous art courses and has a teaching qualification (adults). She gives regular demonstrations to art groups, using either oils, watercolours, line and wash or pastels. She is an experienced tutor and believes in helping students learn the basic skills needed in order to achieve their goals, through group learning and lots of 1:1 tuition. What to bring Oil Paints in the following colours: - Titanium White - Lemon Yellow - Cadmium Red - Alizarin Crimson - Ultramarine - Cobalt Blue - Sap Green - Yellow Ochre - Burnt Sienna - Burnt Umber - Ivory Black - Cadmium yellow ( For info: Daler-Rowney sets containing these colours may be purchased from “ART Discount”, “Amazon” “Cass Art” “Bromleys” etc) - 2 x Canvas Boards: 18 x 14 ins - Brushes: for oils: Hog bristle – 1inch flat, ½ inch flat, ¼ inch filbert , No 6 round - Synthetic - No 2 rigger ( for acrylic or watercolour) - Palette : either a wooden palette or a disposable tear-off pad, or any old china plate ( they will be destroyed in the process!) - Palette knife (small diamond shape ) - Kitchen roll - An old towel, torn into pieces approx. 12 x 12ins. - Apron - Wet wipes - Pencil, notebook Don’t forget to also bring cardboard or newspaper to lay your wet painting on to transport home About Flatford Mill We have four buildings that are used for visitor accommodation. Whilst most rooms are either en-suite or have a dedicated bathroom, there are some rooms in The Mill that share showers and toilets at the end of the hall. If this is unsuitable for you please make the office staff aware upon booking or as soon as possible. Please be aware that you are visiting a Field Centre that caters in the main for school parties; the accommodation is basic and dormitory style, but warm and comfortable.
