Making Faces - A Sculpting Masterclass with Christine Pike MA

X

Description

The face is the most important part of a figure! In this workshop I will show you various techniques for creating the different elements of the face to create a sculpture from the imagination, including: - How to measure placement of the eyes. - Open and closed mouths. - How to create character. - Non-human/fantasy faces. You will spend the day experimenting with building different faces, exploring character and expression. Make as many faces and heads as you like during the day! All materials and tools are included in the cost of this workshop. We will be working in clay but please note, your pieces will NOT be fired. Instead, you will be able to take them home with you at the end of the day and use them as reference and inspiration to realise your own vision, taking what you have learned to create your own amazing figures! Clay may not ultimately even be your preferred medium - but it is soft and easy to work and therefore perfect for an intensive day of honing your sculpting skills to the max. This workshop is perfect for anyone who wants to make masks, jointed figures, dolls, puppets, or busts. Please note: it is NOT a life sculpting class - you will be encouraged to work from the imagination and develop your own style. During each workshop I will share everything I have learned over more than 30 years as a professional sculptor. Each session will be a mix of demonstrations by me and hands-on practice and experimentation by you. These session will not be ‘sculpting by numbers’ - instead, you will be encouraged to work from your imagination and find your own style. At the end of the workshop you will be able to take home everything you have made to use as reference in your continuing sculpting journey.

This workshop isn't suitable for absolute beginners, but you don't need to be sculpting professionally to join this workshop. It's more important to bring enthusiasm, imagination, and a willingness to learn :)

Tools and all materials will be provided - but if you have some favourite 'go to' tools of your own, please do bring them with you.

Hi, tea, coffee, and biscuits will be provided throughout the day but lunch is not provided. However, the venue is a short five minute walk from the town centre where you can grab a sandwich, etc. Or bring your own packed lunch. The venue is equipped with a small kitchen and cafe seating.
