Make a live-edge bench or table
Description
This course runs over six consecutive Tuesday evenings between 7 and 9.30pm. The project is to fashion a beautiful bench or side-table from live-edge timber, using traditional green-woodworking techniques. The design is based on the traditional ‘pig bench’ used historically as a piece of agricultural equipment, but it makes an excellent dining bench or occasional table in the modern home. You’ll learn the process of crafting the legs and undercarriage of the bench from green timber using traditional hand tools such as the froe, drawknife and spokeshave. You’ll then smooth off the top and sides of the bench before being taken through the process of assembling the piece using traditional chair-making joinery techniques. Then it's yours to take home and sit on, look at, put things on – the choice is yours! This course is a great introduction to the craft of green woodwork and an ideal stepping-stone to my more advanced 'Make a chair' course or more immersive chair-making courses in Wales. If you are interested in taking a combination of these I offer discounts for multiple bookings. Please contact me directly.
What's included in the price?
Basic timber is included. There will be an additional charge for the wood used for the table or bench top. This will be between £40-80 depending on availability of timber and the size of your piece. Tea and coffee provided throughout the course.
