Description

What is glass fusing? Glass fusing is a process where glass pieces and decorative elements fused together at high temperatures in a kiln. Depending on the process you choose you can make many different projects from light benders to waves, lanterns, jewellery to tea lights. What will I learn? • Cutting glass • Designing a simple fused glass piece • Assembling a fused glass piece for firing • A variety of glass fusing techniques depending on your design What can I make? We are not prescriptive in what you can make. So long as it fits in our kiln, and can be made in the time allowed you are good to go! Most people will create 2 pieces on a half-day workshop. This depends on the size of your project(s) and the speed at which you work. If you decide on a lantern it will take you the whole workshop to design and create the four panels. Ideally, arrive at the workshop with your ideas ready to go. That way you can spend your time making glass rather than thinking about it. We are always happy to chat about your ideas prior to the workshop and to make sure that what you want to make is feasible – click the 'message the tutor' button. All the items that you make will be yours to keep. Once the item/s has been fired we will notify you when it is ready. We can arrange postage of the item/s, or if it's more convenient, you can come and collect it. Most items are ready within 2 weeks, however, this can often be sooner. Workshops are run Thursdays through Sundays inclusive. We tend to be booked 2 to 3 months ahead so please bare that in mind. Many of our customers book a 'crafty day-off work' with the added benefit of feeling they are enjoying it more because they are not at work or eating into their weekend time. How many people will be on the course? We keep the number of delegates small, between 1 to 6. We do not mix people who do not know each other. When you book if you are booking for yourself or a group of friends/relatives, those people will be the only ones on your session. Small groups give you maximum tutor time and a relaxed atmosphere in which to be creative. Jill and John are your tutors. They both hold industry recognised professional training qualifications. This means not only do they know their subject, but more importantly how to share it with others in a form that is easy to pick up and in a fun and enjoyable way.

What's included in the price?

• Learn to cut glass • Design several pieces (depending on size) • Use a variety of glass fusing techniques to create your projects • 2 firings in the glass kiln (typically your projects are fused flat to ‘stick’ all the elements together. A second firing shapes your project into a mould. Pieces can be collected or posted for a small P&P fee • Tea, coffee and biscuits throughout the day (we are a 5-star food hygiene rated catering venue too!)
