Fused glass Christmas decorations (1 day) in Sheffield, South Yorkshire

Description

Tutor: Martin McAssey. Martin is a professionally qualified teacher with many year’s experience of teaching fused glass classes. This is a one day Christmas decoration used glass workshop based in Martin's studio in the learning centre at Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet, Sheffield. This workshop is for beginners as well as the more advanced student; this workshop is run with a maximum of ten students ensuring that each student receives individual attention. Each student has use of a workbench with all the tools and equipment they will need while taking part in the workshop. All patterns and materials are supplied by Martin at no extra cost. What will I make on the workshop? You will have the opportunity to make a selection of fused glass Christmas decorations such as snowmen, Santa's, penguins, stars and snowflakes. All pieces made on the day will be fired and available for pickup two weeks after the workshop, if you are unable to pick up your work it will be posted to you (please note a £10 postage and packing fee will apply). What will I learn on the workshop? You will learn all the basic skills needed to make a selection of fused glass Christmas decorations. Such as: • Scoring and breaking glass. • Types of glass used. • Materials that can be used such as frit's, powders, stringers, confetti, papers & metals. • Techniques for different effects. Please note: • It is recommended that you bring reading glasses for close work. • It is recommended that you wear sensible shoes (no open toed shoes) when attending the workshop. • It is also recommended that you wear old clothes. What's included in the price?

All materials such as glass are provided by Martin at no extra cost. Lunch is not available in Martin's studio, it is recommended that you bring your own lunch or that you purchase lunch at the cafe. Teas and coffees are available through the day.

He specialises in teaching stained glass but also runs fused glass and glass painting one day workshops. Martin has taught stained glass classes for Sheffield College and Chesterfield College. Martin is also a member of the Contemporary Glass Society (CGS) and the Artist Network.

"A really enjoyable day! Martin is a great teacher and adapts his teaching to people’s experience. For those like myself with experience of working with glass, Martin was happy to allow us to create our own designs and advised as and when needed. For those with little or no experience he performed demonstrations and provided step by step clear guidance. Lots of lovely glass and bits and pieces to choose from to decorate with. "A wonderfully productive day which I would thoroughly recommend. As a beginner excellent instruction, guidance and advice was given during the day whilst I was able to work at my own pace. Martin gives clear precise instructions in a very well organised workshop with everything you need on hand. The course gives simple instructions and practice of various cutting techniques.
