Scrap glass mosaic stepping stone one day workshop in Sheffield, South Yorkshire
Description
Tutor: Kate Billington. Kate is a professionally qualified teacher with many years’ experience of mosaic and glass classes. This is a one day mosaic workshop based in Martin's studio at the learning centre at Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet in Sheffield. This workshop is for beginners as well as the more advanced student, the workshop is run with a maximum of eight students ensuring that each student receives individual attention. Each student has use of a workbench with all the tools and equipment they will need while taking part in the workshop. Suggestions and guidance on design will be provided. All materials are supplied by Kate at no extra cost. What will I make on the workshop? You will have the opportunity to Mosaic a Granite Stepping Stone, using a big choice of different types of glass. What will I learn on the workshop? You will learn all the basic skills needed to mosaic the granite stone, including: • Selecting suitable glass • Scoring and breaking glass to shape • Finishing glass edges • Positioning glass pieces appropriately • Use of suitable adhesives • Grouting process NB. You will have the opportunity to grout a small sampler on the day. Due to the requirement to allow a sensible drying time for the adhesive, you will be provided with a quantity of grout to take home with you to complete the project once the adhesive is fully dry PLEASE BRING TO THE WORKSHOP A TUPPERWARE/LARGE YOGHURT POT/ COTTAGE CHEESE/PLASTIC CONTAINER to transport the small bag of grout powder home safely. Please note: • It is recommended that you bring reading glasses for close work. • It is recommended that you wear sensible shoes (no open toed shoes) when attending the workshop. • It is also recommended that you wear old clothes.
What's included in the price?
All materials such as glass, stepping stone and grout are provided at no extra cost. Lunch is not available in Martin's studio, it is recommended that you bring your own lunch or that you purchase lunch at the cafe. Teas and coffees are available through the day.

Martin is a professionally qualified teacher with many year’s experience of teaching stained glass courses in Sheffield, Chesterfield and throughout South Yorkshire. He specialises in teaching stained glass but also runs fused glass and glass painting one day workshops. Martin has taught stained glass classes for Sheffield College and Chesterfield College. Martin is also a member of the Contemporary Glass Society (CGS) and the Artist Network.
