I currently design and make my jewellery from my studio at home in Birkhill, Angus, making work for private commissions, exhibitions and contemporary gift shops. I studied Jewellery and Metalwork at Duncan of Jordanstone , Dundee and graduated in June 2014 with BDes (hons) 1st class.
My background is in Community Learning and Development and I currently work in the V & A Dundee as a freelance designer; as an Craft and Jewellery tutor with Fairmuir Adult Association and as the Craft tutor with NEST Creative Spaces, Blairgowrie. I also run beginners jewellery workshops which are advertised here and on my Facebook page.
My jewellery designs are influenced by the beauty of natural forms, their vibrant colours and delicate structures. An ongoing collection of heirloom keepsakes, trinkets and charms adds further inspiration to my work.
My designs evolve from immersing myself in making collages, sketching, photography and experimenting with a range of techniques and materials. Taking these initial ideas I make a variety of individual elements using textured sterling silver, hand patterned aluminium and semi-precious beads. These pieces are used either individually or combined with each other to create my collections.

Jewellery design workshop - silver pendant or silver earrings
"My 13 year old daughter has now done two workshops with Sheila. She is very welcoming, with a lovely studio room.
Sheila encouraged her to use a range of tools and techniques, guiding her through the process of making beautiful silver pendants. Sheila has a lovely calm, patient manner, would highly recommend Sheila's workshops"
Sheila Roussel Jewellery Design responded:
"Hi Louise, it was a pleasure to work with your daughter on both occasions. She did very well making her pendants and they look lovely. Hope to meet you both again. Regards, Sheila"
"Fantastic course - myself and daughters (14 and 19) had an enjoyable time, learning new skills and producing lovely necklaces."
Sheila Roussel Jewellery Design responded:
"Hi Karen, It was a pleasure to have you all come along to the workshop. I'm glad you enjoyed it and were pleased with your pieces, they were really lovely. Regards, Sheila"
"I received a gift voucher from my partners mum for Christmas to go to a jewellery making workshop with Sheila. The whole workshop was great. Sheila is very knowledgable and patient with you. She made the morning very relaxing and is easy to talk with. I throughly enjoyed making my own silver ring which is beautiful. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to do something different and get their creative juices flowing! "
"I took my mum to her ring making experience and honestly we had such a lovely time. Sheila was excellent, she was really patient and explained everything well. It was a safe and clean workspace that was very obviously looked after well. We had a blast and came away with some lovely pieces. Well worth it!"
