"Heather very supportive of a complete novice, the studio is a great environment, close to the canal with all its comings and goings. My friend and I were encouraged to use our creativity to great effect and we had a great day and lovely picture. Heather so helpful and supportive and put us at our ease. It wasn't just the painting, she had booked a table for lunch at the pub and actually took us there. She went more than the extra mile. A lady of great generosity with both her skill and time. We had a thoroughly enjoyable session thank you"

"What a fantastic course. Coming as a beginner, Heather's easy way of explaining and answering my questions made my day a really valuable experience. Her knowledge and skills were shared with ease and I had a thoroughly amazing day, which went very quickly! I would recommend this course to anyone who wants to learn the magic of soft pastels. The icing on the cake were the unison pastels, pastel paper and pencils I was given to take home and enjoy! I will be going back for sure!"

"I had an excellent one-on-one Introduction to Pastels over 6 hours yesterday; Heather is very good at sharing her enthusiasm and translates her intentions and recommendations very clearly. I'd recommend this course to anyone keen on learning: if you have the will, she will engage with you and pass on her methods. And the coffee was excellent. The location, on a lovely sunny day was fantastic."

"A fantastic day with an incredibly warm and talented tutor. Heather explained pastel techniques and materials brilliantly in a way that I will not forget. Having not picked up pastels for 25 years I am astonished that, thanks to her step by step approach, I was able to produce a picture I am actually happy to show to people. A lovely venue for a relaxed learning environment; I was delighted to meet the canals ducks and swans who came to check we were working (and perhaps for some duck food). I will not hesitate to book again."

"Had a workshop with Heather as a gift from my wife, having dabbled with pastels but not really been able to finish to a satisfying degree. I now have the confidence to go back and finish some of my work and start some exciting new ones after Heather showed me, with great patience, where I have been going wrong. She also gave me the benefit of her experience to feel ready to go forward with my art. A very knowledgeable artist with a calm and lovely way of teaching, all set in lovely surroundings. "Discovered Heather 5 years ago and h wow what an amazing artist she is! Her introduction to pastels workshop was brilliant! I booked it as something for myself and partner to do on a weekend and we couldn't have felt more relaxed if we wanted to. The welcome as soon as we walked into the studio was amazing and the day went very well with advice given throughout, but wasnt forced on us if we didn't want it. Would highly recommend this for anyone looking to get creative in a beautiful surrounding with amazing talent at hand."

"I discovered Heather about 3 years ago while on holiday from York? She said she was thinking of running courses for individuals and small groups, and I was eventually her 1st client. I come down twice a year and always book a day with her. I have done landscapes, cats , dogs, my grandchildren and a self portrait of which I am very proud! Heather has given me the confidence to have ago at so many subjects at home. We have great fun and have a wonderful day together and now are firm friends! I can't recommend her and her lovely studio highly enough"

"Heather is a very talented artist and is so generous with her knowledge and her materials. She has a relaxed teaching style which makes the workshop fun and easy to understand. Before I attended Heather's workshop I did not have the confidence to draw, let alone use pastel. After the workshop I had a pastel picture of my dog, which I have framed and am proud of. "We are a mum and daughter (12 years old) and we went for the day to Heather as an early Christmas present. We had a fantastic time. Heather was an excellent teacher. She explained things clearly, showed us different methods and gave us time to develop our skills. She was patient and encouraging. We chatted and had lots of laughs as well as some quiet times of deep concentration! Both my daughter and I produced a picture we were happy to hang on the wall even though we had never worked with pastels before (and I am not artistic by nature at all!). I would recommend Heather to anyone. She was also really helpful in recommending pastels and paper etc which I would never have found on my own. Family bought us pastels etc as Christmas presents which have led to many more happy hours. Don't allow fear of not being good enough stop you from doing this as I nearly did. Whatever your ability, Heather will make your day enjoyable and leave you feeling proud of your work."

"What brilliant days these are with Heather. I love going and will be booking again soon. She is extremely patient and I have learnt so much. I didn't know I could do so much with pastels. I am really enjoying experimenting by myself as Heather really knows how to pass on her knowledge in ways that can be understood easily. It's a fun day from start to finish and in a beautiful location. Laughter and learning go very well together in Heather's workshop."

"Fabulous course. Absolutely loved it. Been now about 4 times. Each time we have picked a picture I am interested in completing and Heather has demonstrated how to complete it as I follow along. Really good value for money. All materials are provided and they are good materials which help in achieving a great finished painting. Would definitely recommend to anyone interested in learning about pastels."

"This was my first real try at pastels and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Heather is a great teacher, not only a skilled artist herself but also good at talking her students through the materials and processes. All materials were provided, including the use of some very expensive soft Unison pastels. As well as finishing one painting each, we also learned some very useful techniques. On top of that, we had a really sociable day - lots of laughs, plenty of coffee and lunch at the on site Barn restaurant . I am sure we will do another course with Heather later in the year , maybe portraits instead of landscape next time. I am so enthused by this new medium that I have of course already ordered some pastels of my own! Many thanks to Heather for your time and perseverance!"
