I live in Lewes, and have been running a furniture and textile business making simply designed contemporary pieces. One of those pieces, the birch wood footstool
is an especial delight to make, it is simple, useful, light & beautiful. With none of the corners that so frustrate upholstery newcomers, I thought it made the perfect 1 day workshop experience. For after a ‘hard’ day learning, making, laughing, creating you get to take home and put your feet up on a foostool, and say “That was Rounded by Me’.
"Lucy was brilliant the whole day. She managed our group’s wide range of abilities, projects and purpose brilliantly. Was a fabulous day and I now need to find when I can bring my wingback chair in for a makeover. Highly recommended ☺️"
Roundedby responded:
"Oh Kate you were a whirlwind I can't believe how much you learnt an achieved - 👌👌👌- and I’m so glad that you decided to go for it with that fabulous embroidered top fabric, the chair absolutely sings !!!
Oooh yes.. .. a Wingback!!
Cheers Lucy"
"The course was an excellent introduction to upholstery. We learnt the essential skills and tools you need to start this fascinating art. Lucy is an inspiring teacher who guided through our first projects. And it was also great fun! I would thoroughly recommend this course to anyone who has in interest in starting out in learning upholstery skills. "
Roundedby responded:
"It was so great to have you on the course Annette, you worked so hard (and with a concert ahead of you!) - it’s incredible isn’t it, how much work there is, simply in the stripping down of a piece, and I’m always delighted when people are up for traditional rebuilding methods - a great tension on your webbing!
Thanks again, and for the kind words! Lucy "
"Great days workshop, my second one,Lucy is an expert teacher and great fun. I've learnt alot, the group were great and we did learn from other projects. Thank you again,Tracy "
Roundedby responded:
"Thanks Tracy - delighted to have you back - your adjustable footstool was. lovely project, and interesting to solve how to work around those hinges!
Well done! And what’s next?
Lucy "
"We had a fantastic (and surprisingly exhausting!) day reupholstering our chair - Lucy was a great teacher. Everybody had brought along quite different projects, and that meant that as a group we had the opportunity to learn about a wide range of upholstery techniques. We came away feeling empowered to do more!"
Roundedby responded:
"You were absolute stars! Not phased by the scale of the project, you'd done some prep, you had a keen eye and ear for what could be achieved, you absolutely wrangled and bossed the springs - WELL DONE - thanks for booking, and I hope you have gotten the upholstery bug and finish what is a truly lovely chair - thanks guys, send me a photo when its finished!
