Maker's bio

'Ore and Ingot' is a Bristol based travelling foundry, started in 2012. Uniquely at the heart of our studio practice is the beautiful alchemy of melting metal. We teach and share metal casting skills, in the format of running short courses, taking commissions and traveling with our portable foundry. Our aim is to create a hub that will draw in local artists and to share skills that are frequently overlooked by art institutions.

Jack reviewed: Bristol Bronze Club - 2 day lost wax bronze casting workshop

"Superb course, Dave was a fantastic teacher, so much so that we only realised quite how complex the process was at the end after we'd finished, he explained everything very clearly and gave excellent instructions. I would highly recommend this course. Lunch was great too!"

Jim reviewed: Bristol Bronze Club - 2 day lost wax bronze casting workshop

"Great course, exciting and fun. Learned so much and came away with a couple of small bronze pieces. Dave was patient, knowledgeable, confident, imaginative and experienced; exactly the right combination for a supportive tutor :-) He's such a nice guy that he even cooked lunch for us! I'd recommend this course; it's a great experience. "

Ore and Ingot responded:

"Thanks, Jim for the lovely feedback. "

Shaw Green reviewed: Bristol Bronze Club - 2 day lost wax bronze casting workshop

"I entered into this course without any real experience of practical crafting as an experience purchased by my sister. I found David the instructor to be a very easy individual to engage with setting a mixed ability group at ease and engaged with the process. My selected project a bronze carrot must have seemed odd and it ended up being quite a substantial piece nonetheless he guided me through the steps to produce what was in the end a better end result than I was anticipating. Overall I would definitely recommend the course to others regardless if your intent is skill acquisition for further projects or simply as a fun weekend doing something different. If I had a minor criticism it would be that the final stages of finishing and patination seemed a little rushed and I certainly feel there is more work to be done on the piece before I consider it 100% complete."

Kamalini reviewed: Bristol Bronze Club - 2 day lost wax bronze casting workshop

"Dave was an excellent teacher and facilitator, with a perfect balance of letting you make your own decisions and do most of it yourself whilst offering guidance where needed. He obviously really cares that folk are successful. He shared his impressive depth of knowledge, talent and experience and the process was fascinating. There’s so much beauty in the alchemy and my son and I were on a high for hours! Great food too. Many thanks."

Ore and Ingot responded:

"A pleasure having you both there. Really glad you enjoyed it."
