As a wildlife biologist and woodland firefighter for the last decade, the best part of my job was teaching others the wonders of wild spaces. The tools and traditions of living close to nature are as wondrous as natural spaces themselves. My passion for the natural world shifted from the growth of flora and fauna to how we as humans grow in wild areas. I now focus on working with young people and adults, specialising in green woodworking, spoon carving, wilderness skills and bushcraft, with nature based well-being at the centre of all I do. I primarily teach sloyd workshops and wilderness education programmes. I have experience with SEN individuals as well as other mental and spiritual health difficulties. For me, the natural world and its materials are a source of grounding. I am an avid outdoorsman, angler, green woodworker, and new father. I strive to find creative and impactful ways to help people connect with themselves and the natural world through making.
"My partner and I has such a great day! Max was fantastic, super friendly, very knowledgeable and an excellent teacher. Both of us are so happy with what we ended up making and will absolutely be looking at Max’s other courses"
"Wonderful day spoon carving, harder than I thought but so rewarding. Max was superb, fun, methodical and a wonderful tutor. This course has inspired me to continue, and wonderful spoon at the end, what more can you ask for. Thank you."
"An excellent, quiet and relaxing day. Max is a great teacher, very kind, patient and generous with his time. Well suited for complete beginners, too! Couldn't have asked for a better introduction to spoon carving."
Max Sconyers III responded:
"Thanks Adam! It was great meeting you and carving together. Hope to see you again soon with a basket full of your own spoons!"
"We had the pleasure of attending Max's spoon whittling workshop a couple of weeks ago and I can't remember having a more enjoyable or constructive day out for a long while. We were delighted and slightly astonished how well our spoons turned out, thanks to Max's relaxed, informative and thorough teaching. Lunch was great, the setting was great, there were mince pies, a wood fire - what's not to love. Max is one of the nicest people you could hope to meet - book this course, you won't regret it. A million stars."
