I graduated from a degree in Ceramics & 3D design at Brighton University in 1996 and I have been working in clay ever since. I specialise in raku and stoneware ceramics.
I have over 20 years experience in teaching small groups, masterclasses and one-to-one courses. I love introducing students to clay, as well as helping artists to translate their ideas into a new material. My workshops allow students to learn a wide range of new techniques and approach clay in a creative and experimental way.
"A thoroughly enjoyable course, in a beautiful setting. Lots of equipment provided and Kate helped in giving inspiration to help with decoration of pottery. There was enough time to sit, relax, have a cup of tea and experiment with paints and techniques. I would definitely do this course again and found Kate to be an excellent teacher."
Kate Schuricht Ceramics responded:
"Thanks for your feedback and thoughts, Katharine. I am really pleased that you enjoyed the workshop and I was impressed by how productive you were! There are some of your lovely pieces being glazed in the studio as I write, and they will soon be ready to send back to you. I hope to see you again at another workshop."
"What an inspiring day I had. Curiosity made me book this course and I wasn’t disappointed. Kate was a discreet yet very supportive coach. The group was keen and interactive. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and are waiting impatiently to see the fired result of my inspiration. Thank you, Kate."
Kate Schuricht Ceramics responded:
"Thanks, Barbara. It was great to see you working away so busily and to see you so engaged! The result was some fantastic pieces and I am looking forward to sharing the results with you soon, possibly at a follow up glazing session. I am just waiting to hear about dates....."
"Brilliant day with Kate. Super friendly and an absolute expert, Kate took me through both specific skills and how to think about my work creatively. And all in a lovely setting and studio. Recommend very highly."
Kate Schuricht Ceramics responded:
"Thanks, Simon. It was great working with you to explore the glazing process. Wishing you all the best with your work and hope to see you again."
"I always love Kate's workshop. They are well organised, and Kate's careful preparation means everything you need is readily available, so you can focus on creating with clay in a safe and relaxing environment. She is a thoughtful and inspiring teacher/potter, passionate about sharing her enthusiasm for ceramics. Clay as a canvas focused on using a variety of glazes and exploring a range of techniques that can be used on mainly unfired but also fired clay. I found it really useful to just experiment with the glazes with the added benefits of working with others doing the same!"
Kate Schuricht Ceramics responded:
"H Kirsty. Thanks for the kind and helpful feedback. It was good to see all the students experimenting with the underglaze colours onto leather hard clay and really pushing the materials to see what could be achieved. It is a really versatile technique and helps to get colour onto the pieces at an early stage, so I am glad that you enjoyed the process."
