"Private tuition with Jo has been one of the best skills investments I have made, in terms of both time and money. Jo has the ability to meet her students at the level they are at, which greatly helped me build foundational knowledge as well as as more advanced skills. As for workshops - Jo's sawing masterclass was an eye-opener for me. Would definitely recommend either workshops or private tuition with Jo - either option is a day well spent!"

"Jo is a fabulous teacher with the patience of a saint! I attended a silver earrings workshop following a Summer School with her and although had the basics I needed to perfect my soldering skills. I went home with four pairs of earrings which I admit only one found it’s way to my sister as a Christmas present ?"

Jo is the most wonderful, patient teacher who seems to know everything, and is great at quick mistake-fixing! I'll be coming back to learn some more techniques as I am so so happy with the output from my day."

"I really enjoyed this class with Joanne. The Sorting Office studios are a great venue with plenty of room for everyone. Joanne is an excellent teacher who gave clear explanations and demonstrated what was required at each stage of the process. I made a pair of earrings and 2 pendants. The other people taking part ranged from complete novices to those with lots of experience. Everyone left with 2 or 3 pieces of jewellery. I have continued to use the technique at home using an electric hot plate and 24 carat gold leaf. Keum boo is a great, inexpensive way to add a touch of luxe to your jewellery."

"Jo is friendly, welcoming and a wonderful teacher. She is really able to break things down step by step and patiently answers any question, explaining the hows and whys behind the process. I made several pairs of earrings, some I gave away others I kept for myself! Have since been back for further courses with Jo. Highly recommended!"

"My sister and me booked a private lesson with Jo and both wanted to make different things. She was very accomodating with this request and we both felt well instructed. She is a knowledgeable silversmith and accomplished teacher. I would love to live nearer so I could do more lessons with her. Could not recommend her classes highly enough."

"I'm a self taught silversmith, who has progressed from wirework into torch work. I did a simple evening class, and then tried to learn as much as I could from online classes and books. And of course trial and error - lots and lots of error. I found Joanne's classes online and then discovered she runs workshops, including bespoke individual tuition. I booked a couple of days, train tickets and a hotel and sent her a list of what I wanted to cover. It was a vast list. Joanne is incredibly patient and has the best teaching style I have ever come across my whole life, in any topic or medium. Every process was explained as we went through it, concisely, clearly and as though it were a perfect stream of consciousness - pre-empting all my questions (you have no idea how rare this is for me). My vast list was covered, fully throughout the course and at no point did I feel in the least stupid. I'm now able to tackle almost any task I want and more importantly, I have the confidence to try and not worry about failure because I know now how to learn meaningfully from these, much rarer errors. I can set stones like a pro, recycle my scrap, saw well, with fewer broken blades and I also got to test out a whole range of tools to help me choose my own. I cannot recommend Joanne's jewellery tuition highly enough. I only wish I lived within a commutable distance."

"I really enjoyed my first attempt at jewellery making. Jo is a patient and knowledgeable tutor, giving just the right amount of support and encouragement to participants. There is a good range of materials available and plenty of samples to spark design ideas. The studio is light and spacious and the atmosphere is relaxed making for an enjoyable and absorbing experience. I was able to make 7 pairs of earrings, of a standard that I was happy to give to friends as gifts. I would highly recommend the course."
