"Four of us did a taster session as a birthday treat for our teenage daughter. Joan was welcoming, a great teacher and she was generous with her time, knowledge and praise. She very kindly offered to fire and glaze our poor initial efforts (we were first time pottery throwers). All together a great experience and recommended. We will make the time to return."

"A really enjoyable course. Joan is knowledgeable about a wide range of clay building methods, and is really patient! I went on the course wanting to learn how to throw on the wheel, but have also found that I enjoy hand building as well. I could have spent hours in her workshop turning down pots as I find that the concentration is so therapeutic. I have been back 3 times now, and am looking forward to more this year."

"Met Joan and she inspired me to take up Pottery and if anyone is ill, I would highly recommend that they take a course of pottery in Joan's Den ? I come for 3 hours and the time fly's by, I have learnt to use the pottery wheel and made a lighthouse (quite complicated as several pieces need joining) but I still have problems centering on the wheel which Joan is helping me with. I have also made cups, bowls and a small teapot ?"

"I was looking for a course to provide me with a few skills and some time to 'play with clay' and I am really enjoying my weekly visits. I have only been going for a month but Joan provides a great calming atmosphere - she has incredible patience and her friendly approach has really allowed me to learn. I am a total beginner and found Joan by chance and I could not recommend her enough. She gives you tips to improve but allows you to take the direction you want - I am now moving on from my pot and bowl but have not used the wheel yet! I have been inspired by her work and also the people I have met through the course. A great relaxing way to spend an evening."

"What a delight! Three hours hard work (well it is now I'm retired), passed in the blink of an eye. Joan, the tutor, is clearly very experienced and very patient with a total novice! I'm not usually a big fan of mucky hands and "yes, Joan" I know my nails are a bit long but I can't wait for next week to see if my masterpiece is still intact. I would highly recommend this course which is growing in popularity."

"I did the beginner's course a few months ago, and then continued going along. I still class myself as a beginner, but I have been helped and guided by Joan to use the techniques she has taught us, to create some lovely pieces of pottery. I still haven't got to grips with the wheel yet, but intend to do so as I have just signed up again after the summer. Classes are small and Joan is always on hand to give as much help as you need. Pottery is very therapeutic and absorbing, and a good 'mindfulness' activity: a real tonic if you have a stressful life! I have enjoyed learning something new, and seeing my own and other people's creations take shape. All the equipment and tools you need are provided (even cups of tea!) - you just need an apron."

"This is a relaxed and friendly course. Joan creates a lovely atmosphere in which to learn in her spacious home studio. Both me and my mother in law did the course. She made vases and delicate flowers and I made a selection of pottery animals. Joan allows you to make what you want whilst teaching you all the basics of pottery on the wheel and hand building. Would highly recommend. It's lots of fun and very relaxing. Lots of tea and biscuits too which is always a bonus."
