Marianne, your tutor, is a full-time basketmaker with a workshop on the border between East Sussex and Kent, She has been weaving baskets since 2006 and will teach you the ancient, professional basketry techniques at your own pace, while focusing on the mindful and therapeutic elements of weaving with natural materials in tranquil surroundings. The method is now often applied to contemporary baskets. She teaches weaving with willow, hedgerow, rattan and, on the rare occasion, rush.

Crafty Basketry's Basket Making for Beginners/Improvers with Rattan or (Stripped) Willow - 2-day Course at King John's Nursery, Etchingham, East Sussex
"Thank you Marianne, I loved the day I had weaving my own lampshade on Saturday. Having no experience you were patient, calm and so knowledgeable about the craft. I felt great at leaving with something I had made that is both beautiful and useful! She's up and in my living room, admired. It's a very meditative experience and extremely satisfying. I plan to be in touch about further willow weaving days, especially cloche and plant climbing structures. I've passed on your details to others that I think would enjoy. Thanks again :)"
Crafty Basketry responded:
"Thanks so much for your amazing review, Kate! It was a great pleasure to teach you. Lots of times, I teach people that would like to do the craft as an experience and of course they'll have a great time, but from time to time I'm blessed with people like you, who find that they really take to this craft and are very eager to learn more. To get more people to start becoming a basketmaker, so the craft will continue its journey is just the best feeling and to have seen you totally in your element is absolutely wonderful! Look forward to the next time, with your friends."
"This was a very rewarding day and as someone who feels they have no natural talent or skill, I came away with a beautiful basket and new skills, so a great success! And that was thanks to Marianne, our calm, kind and knowledgeable course leader. The Cowshed Workshop is an inspiring space being absolutely in the middle of nowhere, beautifully decorated and there was plentiful tea, coffee, fruit and cake to enjoy all day long - as well as the gorgeous roaming animals that drift in and out. All in all, a delightful day 😊"

"Thank you very much for your super 5-star review, Ruth! You deserve 5 stars as well, as I think you've got the creative vibe in your fingers and have an intuitive way of learning. I hope you'll go and explore what else you may not be aware of you've got in you. It's always amazing how one thing leads to another and before you know it, you're a craftsperson yourself! Look forward to seeing you and your friend back again, perhaps to weave some plant supports or lampshade!"
"Marianne. I really enjoyed the day with new people and leaning a new skill. It was great taking time out of my life. I find it hard to do new experiences on my own thank you for making it easy."
Crafty Basketry responded:
"Well done. Sue, for plucking up the courage to go and make your amazing basket. You stepped outside your bubble and had a lovely time! Hurray! May it encourage you to do that more often, just being bold and going for something you love the look of, trying your hand at something different, or perhaps at weaving a lampshade, or ornament, like a dragonfly, huge flower or sculptural item. It was a pleasure to have you on board. Wishing you lots of fun on your new journey."
"Thank you very much Marianne for a fantastic day of basket weaving with you at The Cowshed. You are a wonderful teacher and very patient. The venue was lovely and warm on a cold wet day and the atmosphere was relaxed. I also enjoyed hearing the historical facts you gave us about basket weaving throughout the day. Such a nice group and great cake! I cannot recommend you highly enough. I am delighted with my funky lampshade and look forward to booking on another workshop very soon."
Crafty Basketry responded:
"Oh Melinda, I'm over the moon with your review! Thank you so much. I put so much into making it a pleasurable experience for everyone, but everyone is different, so you never know, but it's so lovely to hear that you had a fantastic day! Thank you very much again for your review and I'll look forward to creating something different again at what will be your third session with me. I also hope to see you again this year at the Wealden Literary Fest. See you soon. All the best for now, Marianne - Crafty Basketry"
