Tara Bullock reviewed: Beach Art North Cornwall

"We all felt this was a special event and although we've been to Polzeath many times before we didn't realise what a fantastic afternoon we could have just drawing on the beach! Bill starts you off with a quick intro to Beach art, shows you the ropes (literally!), and shares some insights into his unique approach. Then, he lets you practice on the sand with rakes and circle-making tools. Seriously, you don't need to be an artist. Bill guides you, so you can just go with the flow and create patterns and then we all worked together on a final design. The geometric shapes are a bit mind-bending, especially when Bill shows you how many different designs you can make from interlocking circles. It's pretty incredible! Although we didn't stay to watch the tide erase our masterpieces, the photos Bill sent over were wonderful, particularly the drone shots. We even got some enlarged and framed. If this is your first go you don't need to worry as Bill is a lovely man and gentle teacher and the session is an experience that’s worth every penny. A brilliant way to get a different perspective on your own artistic abilities and to experience the beach in an entirely different way."

"I had a totally enlightening hour with Bill online today and learnt so much about Sacred Geometry and how our paper drawings could be used on a much bigger beach or even field canvas. A wonderful starting point for anyone thinking about their summer beach holidays and the pack alone of templates and ideas will keep me busy for some time. It's incredible what you can make with same sized circles and I can see now how these techniques were developed for more complex Islamic designs which is one of my interests. I can warmly recommend this short starter course to anyone. It was very good value to have such an experienced artist on a one-to-one basis to myself and we went far over the time allocated in a very relaxed and informal way. Thanks Bill."

"I did the course with Bill via that Airbnb Experiences site and had a wonderful two hours on the beach learning how to make star patterns within the grid of a massive Flower of Life. It looked amazing from the cliffs above but the main thing for me was the meditative nature of the experience. Very calming and great to be by the sea focused on easy to follow instructions. Highly recommend to anyone."

"I booked this with my 14 year old son. I can honestly say it was one of the most absorbing and unique experiences i have had through airbnb. For anyone who thinks they are not an artist and wants to know how to do this - trust me you wont be disappointed. Bill is also a very lovely man and gentle teacher who has a lot of knowledge - which he shares only if you're interested otherwise will leave you to work on creating a magical piece of art with quiet guidance. My son was super proud of his work and felt encouraged, never criticised and he felt he learnt some new skills too. Thank you Bill..."

"We had the most magical two hours on the beach with Bill this morning. He was hugely accommodating to all ages and abilities, encouraging us all to try out our own designs with lots of tips and insight along the way. He was interested in our lives and family and his knowledge and passion for all things Fibonacci was super interesting :-) We loved creating our beach art, found it satisfying, liberating and utterly therapeutic!
