Maker's bio

I have been a passionate teacher of art in a secondary school for 26 years, but have now taken early retirement to follow my own path, building my studio practice and offering therapeutic workshops to people with a passion for traditional crafts. My studio/ workshop is situated in rural surroundings close to Yarm in North Yorkshire. Hence, I am constantly motivated by the versatile nature of art and how it inspires and encourages my designs. My work therefore is always in a state of constant change as it develops and refines. While I use a variety of materials and processes, I use traditional sketching and sculpting skills using 3D media. Creating relationships between art and craft methods. My influences are first and foremost everything I see, feel and experience with nature, then each piece is created through modelling and carving techniques. The ceramic work I produce spans domestic and sculptural designs, for both household and exterior use. Also, I design and produce stone carvings for garden ornaments and planters, similarly offering workshop sessions for this in the summer months. All private workshops, held in the pottery, can be tailored to your needs. I am more than happy to run workshops for groups of 4-6 people, where you would be able to stipulate the item you would all like to make. This must be discussed several weeks in advance to allow time to organise and prepare. I also hold level 1 & 2 food hygiene certificates so can offer afternoon tea, cream tea or charcuterie food etc. to complement your workshop. Please email me with any inquiries. Wendy Turner
