Description

Level: all levels welcome Tips, tricks and shortcuts – the easy way to make repeat pattern designs without a computer! We will explore the wonderful world of repeat patterns from the informal and freeform to geometric and complex, using simple principles and techniques that make it look like you’ve done something complicated! No experience necessary (and you don’t need to be able to draw!) We will cover the basics of the design process looking at simple block repeats, tessellation, and freestyle repeats. We will then explore the best ways of producing your images using a variety of materials to make simple stamps made from foam, polystyrene and soft-cut lino or stamp blocks. These can be inked up with printing inks, paint or ink pads to produce an endless array of repeat patterns – you’ll be amazed at what you can do with a simple shape! You can use your designs to print on both fabric and paper. A fun and informal workshop to introduce you to this addictive process – suitable for everyone, no experience needed. What to bring: Cartridge paper, plus scrap paper for test prints. Optional: Fabric such as calico, cotton or polycotton. Optional: Coloured paper. Optional: Gridded or graph paper. Ruler, compass, masking tape. Acrylic paints or inking pads for rubber stamping. Greaseproof paper or tracing paper. Scissors and craft knife if you have one. For printing: If you have your own lino cutting tools feel free to bring them – the tutor will supply tools for everyone during the workshop. A packed lunch.
