Join us for a full day to have a chance to really get to grips with this elegant Calligraphy script. The workshop will take place in our beautiful converted Barn on our Lakeland hill farm near Kendal, Cumbria. The stunning views from the large window may be a slight distraction but the peace and tranquillity of the setting make it a great place to learn a new skill. The day, which is suitable for beginners, will explore how to master Modern Calligraphy, teaching you how to use the calligraphy pointed dip pen and ink, learning forms and how to plan and produce your own beautiful calligraphy. You will create throughout the day and take home finished pieces. Eileen Watson was brought up on the Western fringe of the Lake District and was lucky enough to enjoy all the artistic inspiration this stunning location provided. She began her career as a design office apprentice in 1981 when dip pen and ink calligraphy was still a key component in design and graphics, prior to the explosion of computer aided design. As the digital world advanced, Eileen recognised the importance of the preservation of the hand written word, and her pursuit of calligraphy developed. She now blends a love of letter forms and script with illustration, watercolours, graphite and ink, and coaching and writing skills. Practicing the art of calligraphy now for over 40 years, Eileen enjoys sharing her knowledge by coaching and hosting workshops across the North of England.
What's included in the price?
All materials are supplied and you will receive a calligraphy kit to take home including a dip pen, nib, ink, instruction guides and practice sheets. There is a materials charge of £12 which is payable direct to your Tutor, Eileen, on the day. Refreshments will be available throughout the day and a two course lunch will be provided. Dietary requirements can be met.

We have parking near the Barn and in our farmyard. If you need to be near to the Barn, please let us know in advance and we can reserve you a place.
We do not offer accommodation at Hare Hill Barn, but being in the Lake District there are numerous places to stay locally to suit all budgets. If you would like some assistance in finding somewhere to stay, please get in touch.
