Description

An introduction to Modern Calligraphy. Learn the art of pointed pen and ink calligraphy from initial concepts to finishing flourishes. Develop your own distinctive lettering style with this modern free flowing approach. Go with the flow creating basic strokes and shapes, guided step by step by professional calligrapher, Allie. Play with letter-forms, layout and font to develop projects of your own. Perfect for anyone organising a wedding/special event or wishing to add personalised touches to gifts. Open to both beginners and those with experience. The class starts with an introduction to ‘Faux Calligraphy’ – for the times when a dip ink pen cannot be used. This could be signage, chalkboards, or just doodling! The next step is to learn to hold the pen correctly and how to control the nib and ink. There will then be time to perfect your skills combining all the elements. Tutor: Allie (from Polly & Me Calligraphy) “Lovely day in a beautiful setting, informative tuition, easy work sheets and different ink mediums, lovely lunch and tea time cakes, plenty of tea breaks, really enjoyed the day and feel prepared to start my own projects.” Start time: Join us from 9.30am for tea/coffee and introductions. Tuition starts at 10.00am. There are breaks for lunch and a tea & cake mid-afternoon. End time: The class finishes around 4.30pm • Purpose built a studio in the beautiful Peak District setting • Relaxed, creative atmosphere • 6 - 8 students per workshop • Open to both beginners and those with experience • Good fresh food, homemade cakes • Accommodation on-site and nearby if required • Private groups welcome (minimum 4 people) Please get in touch for bookings or further information.

Fee includes professional tuition, lunch and refreshments - there will be an additional materials fee of approx £20 A tasty light lunch is included in the course fee. Let us know of any special dietary needs. Drinks and biscuits are available all day to help yourself with homemade cake mid-afternoon. 'The Counting House' is a mile from the Zantium Studio in the town of Wirksworth. It has one double bedroom (ensuite)

The Zantium Studio is on the first floor which involves a flight of 11 steps. There is a handrail to one side.
The toilet is on the first floor directly opposite the Studio.

There are a number of exterior stone steps and uneven ground from the car park to the house.

"This was a marvellous course. The facilities were good - the room was light and airy and there was a delicious lunch and plentiful supply of drinks....but more importantly the teacher was excellent. Ali clearly explained everything and she was very attentive to our individual work and queries. I came away feeling enthused and delighted with the work I had done and seen. I only wish there was a follow-up course!! "

"We really enjoyed the willow weaving session. The hospitality was lovely - food was amazing and well beyond our expectations. The instructor Anthony was so patient with my mum with can struggle a little due to arthritic hands. He was personable and made the whole day a pleasure. Great day, would highly recommend and will definately be back for other sessions at the studio!"
