Description

Make your own hardback notebook/sketchbook using traditional bookbinding methods and materials. Open to both beginners and those with experience. Tutor: Holly Serjeant (from Scriveners Books) Start time: Join us from 9.30am for tea/coffee and introductions. Tuition starts at 10.00am. There are breaks for lunch and a tea & cake mid-afternoon. End time: The class finishes around 4.30pm • Purpose built studio in beautiful Peak District setting • Relaxed, creative atmosphere • 4 - 6 students per workshop • Open to both beginners and those with experience • Good fresh food, homemade cakes • Accommodation on site and nearby if required • Private groups welcome (minimum 4 people) For further information or any questions please select the 'message the tutor' button to be put in touch with the course organiser.

What's included in the price?

Fee includes professional tuition, lunch and refreshments - there will be an additional materials fee of approx £15 A tasty light lunch is included in the course fee. Let us know of any special dietary needs. Drinks and biscuits are available all day to help yourself with home-made cake mid afternoon. 'The Counting House' is a mile from the Zantium Studio in the town of Wirksworth. It has one double bedroom (ensuite)

The Zantium Studio is on the first floor which involves a flight of 11 steps. There is a handrail to one side.
The toilet is on the first floor directly opposite the Studio.

There are a number of exterior stone steps and uneven ground from the car park to the house.

"Really enjoyed this course. I liked the venue although getting home through the dark and fog was a bit hairy. Enjoyed lunch, cake and tge rest of the catering. I loved the teaching bit. Holly was very patient and helpful, when I made mistakes or asked for individual help. Pleased with the product and now have the knowledge to have a go myself. "

"I can highly recommend this one day course for beginners or anyone with a little experience of book binding. The day proceeded at a reasonable pace and I never felt rushed. There was plenty of choice when it came to materials for our books and Holly, our tutor was very calm and patient with everyone. We didn’t wait for anything when it came to refreshment breaks and the weather was just about good enough for us to sit outside and enjoy the wonderful surroundings and views. I really enjoyed the day and came home with a book that I was very happy with. I hope that I can return one day to experience another course like this. Thank you, Holly and Peter, who was a great host and provider of lunch and snacks."

"This is a fantastic introductory course to book binding. The tutor, Holly, explained and demonstrated everything thoroughly. The course was unrushed allowing everyone to progress at a steady pace. I'm happy with what I learned and feel confident in using and building upon the skills taught. The hospitality was also excellent, with plenty of hot drinks and snacks provided through the day, with a very nice lunch and homemade cake in the afternoon. Overall, thoroughly recommended!"

"The 1 day bookbinding course is fantastic! Our instructor Holly used her vast experience in bookbinding and restoration to create an informative and very well paced course. Thanks to Holly's clear instructions and encouragement, I went home with a hardcover note book to be proud of. As if the course itself wasn't enough, to do it at Zantium Studios was a joy. The views are stunning and Allison is a wonderful, warm and friendly host. Allison made sure we had everything we needed, from a wide selection of refreshments (available throughout the day), delicious handmade lunches and afternoon cakes. I'd definitely recommend this course, and will be looking to attend another course at Zantium in the future. Thank you for an amazing day. "

"I really enjoyed our day in this creative haven near Wirksworth. The studio is well lit with plenty of natural light and the size of the course was a nice surprise, [small]. We soon became engrossed under Holly's expert tuition and I was very impressed by our output. Holly provided a good range of paper for our covers. The lunch and cake was of a lovely home baked standard. I so enjoyed my day."

"The bookbinding course was superb, I couldn't have imagined that I would leave at the end of the day with a book that looked as if I had bought it in a shop!! Holly was an excellent tutor, really knowledgable but perfectly well-paced. And super organised too! The environment is lovely as well, with a very warm welcome from Alison and Peter, superb home-cooked food (the cake itself is worth the trip!) and a gorgeous studio to work in. I would so recommend this course to anyone, whether you do crafts or not."

"I thoroughly enjoyed my day at Zantium learning how to begin papercutting. The tutor was excellent, teaching us the basic skills necessary, but also encouraging us to design our own pieces within the first hour. As a complete novice, I was thrilled with what I was able to achieve in such a short time and will certainly be continuing with this new craft. Zantium Studios is set in an idyllic hamlet and the studio itself was flooded with beautiful natural light . Inspirational artworks surrounded us throughout the building. Food was excellent with homemade soup and cheese for lunch and delicious flapjacks and cakes (still warm from the oven) in the afternoon."

"This course was very interesting and enjoyable. Christine is an excellent teacher and she was full of enthusiasm and conveyed this throughout the day. She managed to give us all enough individual time and help as needed. These days are however never long enough; needed more time. There is an assumption that participants should to go home with a finished "piece"; I feel this is not as useful as learning more techniques and trying out different ways of doing things. It was a good start and I hope to continue with it. The venue was excellent with very friendly hosts and excellent refreshments. Highly recommended."
