Manchester bee pewter jewellery workshop using cuttlefish casting technique

Description

Handcraft your unique bee, the emblem of Manchester, design and experience the traditional jewellery technique of cuttlefish casting. Through the workshop Ella will guide you through the process of carving your design from the unusual material cuttlefish bone before we pour the molten pewter (lead free metal) to reveal your pendant, keyring or brooch design. We will then finish your cast using traditional jewellery tools and techniques before polishing so you can proudly take your final piece home. A fascinating technique with beautiful results.  Suitable for beginners or those with previous silver or jewellery experience.

What's included in the price?

Ella will provide all tools, materials, and metal. Aprons provided, please wear closed toed shoes and bring an extra layer for winter workshops as our Victorian building can be chilly. Ella will provide design inspiration however if you have any doodles or pictures of ideas you'd like to make please do bring them along. Designs and drawings measuring a maximum of 5cm square work best so they can be transferred onto the size of the cuttlefish. Teas, coffees, and biscuits provided throughout the workshop. Manchester Craft and Design Centre is open to public with 20 craft studios and cafe. Please feel free to allow time before/after the workshop to browse the centre.
