Description

Come and immerse yourself in two days of bookbinding at our NEW and exciting 2-day hard-back bookbinding workshop on 18th & 19th October 2024. Our bookbinding workshops with tutor Kelly are some of our most popular workshops. After chatting with attendees over the last few months we are excited to bring you this NEW 2-day workshop! There is a maximum of only 8 places to allow everyone to fully enjoy the experience of making handmade journals. In this two-day workshop, we will concentrate on making hardback books, and you will make at least two books to take home at the end of the second day. DAY ONE - will be spent making book blocks. We will spend some time looking at and understanding · Paper grain · Hand folding and cutting paper · Creating signatures You will learn how to create the pages for your books, sew them together and look at different techniques and the materials used. Any special extras can be added such as ribbon bookmarks, coloured endpapers or secret envelopes and then secure it all in place in preparation for the following day when we will concentrate on the covers. At the end of day one you can choose whether to leave your pages with the hand-cut edge or whether you would like them taken away overnight to be guillotined to give that perfectly straight edge. DAY TWO - will be spent making the book covers. Select your book cloth and decorative papers for the covers, and learn how to size and cut the boards and spines. Your first book will be fully bound with book cloth for that traditional covered look. For your second book, we will use a mixture of techniques to make a more modern style split cover, with a book cloth spine and a decorative paper front and back cover that will make your book unique to you. Finally, we will bind the bookblocks and the covers together, and at the end of the day you will have two beautifully bound hardback books to take home and be proud of.

Crafting in the Cotswolds – what’s not to love? Lechlade Craft Barn offers craft workshops in the pretty Cotswolds market town of Lechlade on Thames. The Craft Barn is an attractive old stone barn at Karen's home and is the perfect setting to discover and develop your crafting skills. Owner Karen has a long-held passion for crafting, with backgrounds in retail and event management. Along with her workshops, she is joined by a talented team of guest tutors who offer a wide range of craft workshops. The barn is accessed via external stone steps with handrails on either side and unfortunately may not be suitable for anyone with mobility issues. Some workshops are delivered nearby in the bright and spacious Memorial Hall complex and other local venues. In addition to published workshops, we also offer bespoke Crafty Parties for Hens, groups of friends and family, special occasions, or any excuse to have a crafty day.
