Drawing for Absolute Beginners in Hampshire.
Description
Drawing for absolute beginners (and folks told that they weren’t good at art). As creative tutors, it’s not unusual for us to hear the comment “I can’t draw” or “I’m rubbish at drawing”. Most people tend to be quite negative about their own ability and it’s pretty clear that many of us lack confidence in our ability to draw and record and feel frustrated by this. Having confidence in your ability to draw and record well can be extremely helpful to makers, as drawing provides important structural elements that underpin many processes. It’s likely to enhance the quality of your outcomes and your creative experience and make you “inner teenager” happier. If this is music to your ears and you are nodding in agreement, you just might have found the drawing workshop for you. Join us for a day of drawing in the Meon Valley, Hampshire, where we’re going back to basics. This will include: what materials to use and how to use them, how to use different grips, the types of paper available and when to use them and how drawings are simply an arrangement of marks. We’ll draw from primary and secondary sources of natural forms, i.e. the real thing and drawings of an object and see how this differs. You’ll also understand the difference between line and tonal drawings, creating both types, whilst working at different scales and using a range of materials. We’ll take it slowly, and in the afternoon you might like to start something new or return to one of the morning tasks. This workshop will suit makers who lack confidence in their ability to draw or were told not to take ‘O' level or GCSE art, and wish to develop their skills, confidence and a joy for drawing. We will be joined by artist, teacher and maker Liz Wellby who lives and works on the edge of the Peak District in Derbyshire. With over 30 years experience teaching and tutoring, Liz will guide you through this workshop. Please bring along: an apron, a newspaper or an A3 folder to transport your work home. Please bring along any drawing materials you’d like to explore.
