Description
The Copper and Iron Experience Day. Learn traditional copper working and blacksmithing techniques at Anvil Forge, based at Blackcroft Farm in Wokingham near Reading. Everything you make on the day is yours to take away. Everyone makes a copper and iron birdbath or water sculpture. You get to inform the design and build it yourself with our hands on tuition. See some of the pictured items for inspiration. The morning will be focused on creating your copper components. These will be cut from sheet copper and heated and hammered into your desired shape. After lunch you will build the structure for your creation using the forge and blacksmithing tools. People are always amazed at how organic shapes can be made from basic materials. At the end of the day, you can take your creation home and enjoy it forever. Anvil Forge is a small Blacksmithing and Metalwork company, established by John Loveluck and family-run. We specialise in bespoke metalwork which include gates, railings and sculptural pieces. John has over 40 years’ experience of creating artistic metalwork. Copper work tuition is provided by Paul Selley from Copper and Green, who specialise in making traditional copper objects for the home and garden. We can offer some Saturdays but there is a small charge of £20 to cover tutors over time at weekends this payable on the day. In 2015 John and his team were commissioned to produce the feature metalwork for the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism’s garden at the RHS Hampton Court Flower Show, which won a gold medal as well as the best in category.

All the classes are based on a 2:1 or sometimes 3:1 Instructor to Student ratio to ensure that you get the maximum attention without being intimidated. The smallest classes are two pupils and the largest nine, but we tend to aim for a class size of six students with three tutors.
Yes, we are located on a farm and can always find somewhere for you to park.
You can, but with a few restrictions: you will not be allowed in the work area or to stay for a long time, but are welcome to stay for a bit and drink a tea and coffee (we may even ask you to make the class a cuppa for the morning break!)
