Description

Learn the basics of foiling stained glass and make a colourful candleholder in just one day! "Great course, time flew, it was so engrossing... " - Sue This workshop is a one-day introduction to the foiling method of 3-dimensional stained glass construction (sometimes called the Tiffany method) - going beyond making a panel or simple suncatcher! You'll make a fun candleholder or tealight holder approximately 10cm in diameter and up to 15cm high, in your choice of colours like the ones shown - a delight to enjoy at home any time of year! You'll gain a grounding in the essential techniques of foiling with plenty of hands-on experience with the tools we use, and lots of tips, tricks and a little history of modern stained glass. One-day Funky Candleholder copper foiling Stained glass class for up to 6 people - structure of the workshop. We start out by looking at the basic processes and tools we'll be using: - Scoring and breaking glass, using oil-cutter, grozing pliers and cut runner - Preparing the glass for soldering using the grinder, copper foil and crimping tool - Ensuring the pieces will all fit together! - How to hold the pieces together while soldering - essential for 3d designs! - Soldering using a high-power soldering iron and fluxes - Finishing off with decorative details, then cleaning and waxing We'll take you through a demonstration of how we score and break glass and then you'll then practise cutting and breaking glass! At each stage we'll demonstrate the tools and techniques needed, and step by step your candleholder will take shape! You'll learn how to cut the circle of mirror glass for the base and then choose the colours and cut all the glass for the sides of your candleholder; you'll then prepare them for foiling and joining together. When we're all ready for a break, we'll have lunch from the nearby Cafe. All the pieces will then be foiled and soldered together, and then we'll share the special techniques we've perfected to join the sides together and complete your Candleholder. At the end of the day your candleholder will be ready to take home! What attendees have said about our classes: "Interesting, inspirational and relaxing - a great way to spend 'me' time."
