Description

Oil pastel workshop ~ Do you have a box of oil pastels or crayons hiding in the back of the cupboard forlornly waiting to be used? Bring them out into the daylight, dust them off and let's play! Oil pastels are often an under-rated medium but are extremely versatile and can be used in conjunction with a variety of other media to enhance a piece of work with their dense bold colours, or used in their own right for ‘painting’, drawing and some easy printmaking cheats! Close cousins to oil pastels are crayons – both wax and water-soluble. They can be used in many similar ways so we will explore these alongside oil pastels to make the most of all those materials gathering dust! Come along for a fun session and some new ideas for using your stash! There will be lots of demos and step-by-step instruction in this fun and informal workshop. What to bring: - Medium weight cartridge paper or Mixed Media paper (A4 or bigger) - Drawing pencil; biro; brushes (whatever you have) - Oil pastels! If you are buying a new set, something like Faber Castel, Pental, Gallery, or Staedtler (sets of approx. 50) are good value and available on Amazon If you have water-soluble crayons such as Neocolour 2 or Reeves, please bring them along (but don’t buy specially) - Kitchen roll - Apron - Inspiration / source material if you wish to work with particular subject matter – the tutor will also bring some reference. Please note: this workshop is primarily about how to get the most out of the materials, not about how to tackle specific subject matter.
