An Introduction to Nuno Felting

A fabulous opportunity to advance you felting knowledge by learning how to make sumptuously textured surfaces. During the day you will learn how to fuse the traditional technique of wet felting with the contemporary nuno process. By combining wool fibres with a selection of fabrics, we will explore how different fabrics and the way they are laid out, interact with wool to felt creating a myriad of patterns and textures. We will make a series of samples pieces for your to take away for use as reference to aid your feltmaking, helping you plan and design beautiful nuno fabrics for future project. During the day you will select the colour(s) and fabrics you wish to work with to *Gain an understanding of how and why wool fibres adhere to fabric, *Observe how different textured effects are possible using different weights and types of fabric and wool, and apply this knowledge to make your own samplers using fabrics such as silk chiffon, habotai, linen, cotton, devore and more. Nuno Scarf: Book an additional day on 18th May and make a weekend of it, giving you the opportunity to put into practice the skills you learnt and make your own uniquely designed Nuno Scarf. You will dye your fabric, design & create it your scarf design with Emma's guidance. Contact Emma to discuss adding this option. Workshops runs from 10:00- 4.30pm with a break for lunch. Your tutor will be Emma Jackson, a felt maker with over twenty five years experience teaching, designing & making felt for her award winning textiles company, Silversoles. The workshop will take place in her home studio in South Birmingham with a small group of no more than five. Please note: the studio is situated at the bottom of a garden with one step up to access the building.
