All Day Enamelling and Mosaic Experience

X

Description

What a treat! Immerse yourself in a full day of creativity, trying enamelling and mosaic. Katie Sanderson, a local enamel artist and teacher, is back in the studio to collaborate, bringing you a unique and exciting all-day workshop experience, where you can try your hand at two crafts in one day. You will get three hours with each of us and will be able to make a selection of stunning pieces to take home. With Katie you will be creating a kiln fired enamel mini Landscape, plus a piece of jewellery that can be either earrings, pendant or brooch. You will learn how to: * apply the enamel to copper by sieving, wet packing, stencilling and adding decoration * how to fire your own work (everything is fired and finished on the same day) * how to file polish and present your pieces either to leave wearing that day or take home and mount. This is an introduction to enamelling and requires no previous experience. You will be able to choose 2 pieces to create including a mini landscape picture, and jewellery. Katie has lots of copper shapes to choose from and a huge array of enamel colours to play with! The enamelling will all be finished that day ready to wear, mount or display. Then with Mosaic artist Rachel Shilston you will create a mosaic using the direct method, incorporating broken pottery. Perhaps you have some that you would like to incorporate into your design? You will learn how to: * plan a design * shape your tiles * glue your tiles * grout your finished piece You can choose from any of her 20cm shapes, including hearts, or perhaps you would like to just come up with your own unique design on a circle or square. We won’t get time to grout as the glue will still be wet, but a demo will be given and you’ll be given enough grout to finish your piece at home. No experience necessary, suitable for beginners. (Shapes measure approximately 20cm)

Over the past 14 years I have explored enamelling through experimentation. After first being introduced to it by my mum, who packed me off to Nottinghamshire with a kiln and a box of enamel powders. I then became mainly self taught through embracing the freedom of the kiln. I’ve expanded on that first box of enamel powders, and now bring in many techniques to my pieces and my teaching.
