Paul reviewed: Introduction to green woodworking at Sallerton Wood

"I would echo previous reviewers, I learnt a lot in a very relaxed atmosphere, in a truly lovely woodland area. Andy is a great teacher who is also an enthusiastic keeper of the woods. Facilities were great as was the simple lunch (and cakes) provided. I'd certainly recommend this day long course to anyone."

Sallerton Wood responded:

"Thanks, Paul for your positive review. We're very pleased that you enjoyed the course, and the woodland itself. Thanks for commenting on the lunch and cakes too! It would be good to see you back at Sallerton Wood on another course if you'd like to visit again sometime. "

Daniel reviewed: Introduction to green woodworking at Sallerton Wood

"Sallerton Wood is a truly magical place and Andy is it's wizard. I was gifted this course and I honestly could not have asked for a better gift. I had done a whittling course before and that doesn't even come close to how great this was. I truly left feeling connected to nature, educated and feeling reset by this wonderful place. Would love to return again and build upon what Andy taught so well. Thank you for a fantastic day and having me in your slice of the outdoors."

Sallerton Wood responded:

"Thank you very much indeed, Daniel, for that enthusiastic review. It's great that you enjoyed the course so much, and the woodland environment in which it took place. It would be really good to see you back at Sallerton Wood at any time in the future."

Rachel reviewed: Greenwood carving at Sallerton Wood

"I thoroughly enjoyed my weekend at Sallerton Wood on the Kuksa course - a great introduction to green woodworking and satisfying to make the kuksa (looking forward to using it for my morning cuppa!) The woods are lovely and Andy and Jane are friendly, welcoming and relaxed. All tools and materials (plus a delicious lunch) were provided and Andy took us through the process, including tool sharpening, and was always on hand to answer questions or advise on next steps. It was also really interesting to hear how the wood is being managed and spaces created both for green woodworking and for wildlife."

Sallerton Wood responded:

"Thank you very much for your very positive review, Rachel. It is very good of you to put your thought and time to this, and also to comment on the wider aspects of the environment at Sallerton Wood. We're delighted that you enjoyed your experience at Sallerton Wood so much, and we'd love to see you back there one day if you'd like to participate in another course, or just drop in for a visit. "

"We had a fantastic day on this course. The location and setting is beautiful and you feel instantly relaxed as soon as you enter the wood. As a grandmother with zero experience of woodworking or using any tools atall, I was worried I may not be up to it but Andy is an excellent tutor and encourager. I came away feeling very proud of what I’d made and look forward to returning for another course. Highly recommended."

Adrian Jowitt reviewed: Stool making course at Sallerton Wood

"I attended the stool making course recently. It was my first attempt at green wood making and the course was superb. The location was amazing, the wood really well looked after and the buildings made from materials harvested from the wood and in a way that meant they blended in rather than imposed themselves on the site. Andy is a really good teacher, provides guidance and clear advice, giving space for us to get on and do our making but there when needed; if only I'd had a few more teachers like that at school. I highly recommend this course and Sallerton wood generally."

Sallerton Wood responded:

"Thanks very much indeed, Adrian, for writing that account of your experience at Sallerton Wood. We're delighted that you enjoyed the course and the woodland environment in which it took place. Thanks also for your recommendation to others, and we look forward to welcoming you back to Sallerton Wood if you choose to visit again. In the meantime, enjoy for greenwood stool!"

Paul reviewed: Introduction to green woodworking at Sallerton Wood

"Andy is a skilled and very patient tutor, taking absolute beginners through to producing 3 things to take home! The setting is idyllic in his own wood, where greenwood crafting is demonstrated surrounded by birdsong and buzzards calling. Using satnav will not necessarily get you to the right spot, but it's a great journey in many ways. Thoroughly enjoyed the day."

Sallerton Wood responded:

"Many thanks, Paul, for your kind review. Glad to hear that you enjoyed the day's course and its natural environment and birdsong. Thanks also for your comments about tutoring. Many thanks for your support, and it would be good to see you back at Sallerton Wood one day. "

"I recently did a 1-day introduction to green working. It was an amazing day in a fantastic setting. Andy is a skilled woodworker, with the ability to teach and enthuse. I learnt and realised so much about working with greenwood without the need for power tools. Andy demonstrated we really can work without electricity. Really enjoyed the day! Also thank you to Jane for a nice heathy lunch."

Karen Turner reviewed: Stool making course at Sallerton Wood

"Oh my word what an amazing time my husband and I had making stools in the woods. Andy is a fantastic teacher, very calm and knowledgeable. I was so nervous, but as soon as we arrived in the woods, and had meandered down to the clearing, I already felt calm and relaxed. We were greeted with tea and biscuits, and after brief introductions to the other participants, we were off to the open air (but covered!) workshop. A fantastic 3 days, excellent company, great food, oodles of tea and biscuits, fab teacher. If you look at the photos and think - I’ll never be able to do that. Really you can, we did."

Sallerton Wood responded:

"Thanks so much, Karen for that lovely review. It was great to have you and Paul on the course, and we're really pleased that you enjoyed the course so much. And very many thanks indeed for booking on another course at Sallerton Wood so soon after this one!"

Mandy W reviewed: Chair making course at Sallerton Wood

"This is absolutely the best course I have ever been on. Andy is a patient teacher, expertly sharing his skills to guide you through making a chair. The woodland is magical and was utterly beautiful in May with a blanket of bluebells. Working with green wood was a joy and I love my chair. There were six of us in all and they were a truly lovely group of people to spend time with. Very much looking forward to returning on another course ? PS the wood fired pizza was a special treat ?thank you"

"I don’t think I can add much to the reviews already on here. Unhurried instruction and a great environment to learn in. Stayed locally in a B&B but camping an option on site. Jonathan Moore reviewed: Introduction to green woodworking at Sallerton Wood

"I had a day on the introduction to green woodworking and was quite taken by how involved it is, from choosing a specific piece of wood to make a particular tool because of the grain or a knot. Andy is a very skilled passionate teacher for whom nothing was too much trouble. Very much enjoyed the day. Thanks to Andy and Jane."

Sallerton Wood responded:

"Thanks very much indeed, Jon, for your review. We're very pleased that you enjoyed the course, and we look forward to welcoming you back to Sallerton Wood one day if you choose to do a further course. In the meantime, enjoy the rest of your summer. "

Jacob Ross reviewed: Stool making course at Sallerton Wood

"I've lived on four continents, and Sallerton Wood is as lovely a spot as there is, camping among the bluebells below the tree canopy by the stream. Better still is to learn greenwood furniture making from as friendly, skilful and patient a teacher as Andy Morton. It is inspiring as a beginner to use hand tools only, on freshly cut wood from sustainable woodland management, to complete a project to such a high standard. The whole experience was superb - refreshing, relaxing and engaging. I highly recommend the stool making course at Sallerton Wood, I've shared the details with my friends, and am already planning my next visit."

Sallerton Wood responded:

"We are very pleased that you enjoyed the course, and its woodland setting. We look forward to seeing you again on your next course at Sallerton Wood."

"I had a great day out in such an amazing setting. It was so interesting to find out about selecting and splitting up green wood to work with and then to be shown and learn to use traditional tools in the well-equipped workshop shelter. Andy is extremely knowledgeable and made it all seem so easy. I came away not only with the things I’d made during the day but also eager to do more as soon as I get the chance. Thanks for an excellent day (not to mention the tasty lunch and afternoon cake)."

Katrin Werner reviewed: Greenwood carving at Sallerton Wood

"My third workshop booked with Craft Courses and certainly the best. Arrived the day before the course and camped in the woods. Such a beautiful and special environment, listening to owls, the stream and feeling totally relaxed and safe on my own. The workshop was unique in so many ways. Not only is Andy highly skilled and inspiring, his relationship to the woods, working with wood and the surrounding environment but also sharing his skills, knowledge and vision felt totally enriching to me. This course was an invitation to enter in a relationship with the wood I was working with and enabled me to create a Kuksa, which is personal and rather beautiful. Wholeheartedly recommend this course ! Very best wishes to the team, you are awesome."

Sallerton Wood responded:

"Thank you so much Katrin, for such a lovely review. We are very pleased that you enjoyed the course so much, and that you enjoyed the experience of camping in the woods too. We hope to see you back at Sallerton Wood again one day. Very best wishes to you from all of us, i.e. Andy, Jane & Alan."

Peter Roberts reviewed: Introduction to green woodworking at Sallerton Wood

"The course was a Christmas present from two good friends. Gosh, was I lucky! I was initially reticent about going, but within moments of arrival, I was enjoying the forrest location under cover of a relatively open, but protected shed. Andy was an excellent tutor who was fully hands on giving group and individual guidance without "taking over". Even the least practical of those attending found they could manage to produce some great products to take home and show off to family members. Being a pretty hands on DIY'er I learnt a whole bunch of new things that I could do. It was huge fun! Thanks, Andy!"

Sallerton Wood responded:

"Thanks, Peter, for your enthusiastic review. We are delighted that you enjoyed the course, and we'd love to welcome you back to Sallerton Wood if you choose to do another course sometime in the future."
