Ron McConnachie reviewed: Cleft ash gate making with Gedwood

"Had a great time learning something new with the use of hands and woodworking tools, Ged is a great instructor, explains and demonstrates what needs to be done and then lets you get on with it, he will stop you if he hears the wood splitting with a crack in the wood that is not correct, only experience gives you this knowledge.... Met other great people on the course and three individual gates were made, looking forward to seeing them in their final position, Cleft ash gate making with Gedwood is highly recommended. A positively 5 Star Plus experience, Bravo Zulu Ged."

Gedwood responded:

"Yes it was a great weekend of shaving and carving Ron. Enjoy hanging your gate!๐Ÿ‘"

"Really enjoyed the course. Ged was an excellent instructor knowing exactly when to let us get on with and when he needed to intervene. His experience, knowledge and passion for his craft were insightful and inspiring. Iโ€™d never done anything with greenwood before and have learned so much in a short space of time. Mike Duff reviewed: Make your own shavehorse with Gedwood

"I recently attended the shave horse course, it was as described, great tuition by a very knowledgeable tutor who has a great affinity to the green woods being worked and the traditional tools being used. Other than going home with a hand made shave horse the other 3 aims I wanted to achieve was to work with green wood - achieved - work with wood without using a tape measure - achieved - work with traditional tools - achieved. Myself, the other attendee & Ged had a lot of chat and laughs during the well organised relaxed atmosphere of the 2 days of tuition. I would recommend this course - for anyone wanting a tutored introduction to green wood working, techniques, tools and wood characteristics - and you go home with your own great shave horse ! Thank you Ged."

Gedwood responded:

"Hi Mike, Many thanks for your kind words. Glad you enjoyed the experience. Happy shaving days ahead! ๐Ÿ˜Š"

"Had a really good course going back to basic woodworking techniques. Ged was a calming influence when things didnโ€™t go as planned, providing clear instructions and helpful support. The second day proved to be a great team building event as all five of us helped one another finish our gate at roughly the same time . Overall a great weekend. Three of us took an Airbnb at the Coffee Pot in Dufftown, visited The Commercial pub, ate in the Indian across the road, and had a Chinese takeaway, all excellent and highly recommended"

Dorothy Dominy reviewed: Log to Stool with Gedwood

"Thoroughly enjoyed the log to stool course with Ged on Sunday. I was apprehensive on arrival with the array of tools on show. The first demonstration of using an axe to split your log didn't quell my concerns. But Ged has a calming way with him and under his guidance and with a fair bit of banter and encouragement within our group we all tackled each stage of the process. It's really wonderful how good you feel when you look at the finished article. A great day our with a beautiful wee stool to take home at the end of it all. "

Gedwood responded:

"Glad you enjoyed the stool making Dorothy. Was a good day of learning and banter!๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ‘"
